Stock RX8 with K&N V.2 |
Remove the rev limiter and floor it.

I launch at 4000 rpms just to not spin the rears too much. I guess your launching speed should be whatever you are comfortable with for a smooth take off. it's not a drag race so it doesn't really matter that much unless you are racing to the first corner.

About 4-5k, depending on the temp and how warm your tires are. Any lower and you won't get much power.

Hope this isn't a thread jack - it's a related question from a newbie. By launching at 4-5K, is it a given that you're going to need to replace the clutch earlier? I'm not a track guy, but I'm interested in knowing what RPM from a dead stop gives you the most acceleration without damaging the clutch.

yea last time i launch at 4500K and it did okay....but i just wanna fo sure i got a good launch

I remember reading on here a while back that 7k was the perfect RPM to launch from.

7k rpm for a stock 8? |
wheel hop is going to be an issue at that high of an rpm.
and ANY sort of launch is going to hurt your clutch. |
4000rpm release the clutch so that the rpm doesnt drop below 3000rpm
|
I consistently get the best launches dropping from 7k. That is me though, your tire compound, tire width, size, power, etc probably varies, so your launch rpm might as well.
As long as you dont slip the clutch, there isnt tons of clutch wear. but sudden grabbing does apply shock to the drivetrain. So pick one between A) granny launch, B) clutch burning slip, or C) possible drive train snapping shock. |
It depends whether the early lead to the first corner will yield any positive result for the rest of the race, if it doesn't then there is no point to put extra stress on the clutch.
|
yea anything will hurt...hahah how about launch at 6k
|
|
hahaha how about 10k all the way =D
|
What a waste... you can't beat a volkwagon in a drag.
Save the abuse on the car. |
