What is Flooding?

Hey I've been lurking around this forum for a while now. And even by reading most of the "Flooding" sticky in the Issues/Problems forum, I still don't understand what flooding is and how it works. Can someone explain to me in noob speech? Thanks. Oh, btw, I am getting an RX8 pretty soon, how does 17G for a 2004 GT with 23K miles sound?

Flooding is when too much gas is in the engine and it can not start because its "Flooded with Gas" its drenched. The 2004 GT you spoke of could be a good price, but we need to know what opts, condition, and is that OTD?

Flooding is when to much gas gets into the combustion chamber, the excessive gas prevents proper combustion chamber sealing in a rotary. With out the sealing compression can not take place and the engine will not start.

This can effect both piston and rotary engines but in a piston engines the gas will drain away through the piston rings into the block and will eventually allow the car to start. In the case of the rotary the gas has no where to go so it sits at the bottom of the rotary chamber until you try and start it again at which time it spreads around the rotary again.

This problem is no where near as prevalent as it once was because of the use of a faster spinning starter, larger battery and hotter plugs. A faster spinning engine better forces the apex seals out to form a seal improving compression and therefore ignition.

A hot engine dose not suffer this problem because the hot engine keeps the fuel in a vapor form which is easily dispersed out the exhaust ports.

Well, the flooding part has been answered.

That sounds like a pretty good price on the 8, maybe a great price depending on the options as long as the title is clean. More info . . .

Welcome - good luck w/your hunt!

Get a flood is good, because you can get new plugs, starter, and a battery, for freeeeeeee.

When I saw the title I thought the first response was surely going to be "Search you *&&^% noob!" Good too see I was wrong.

O.K. young man, no need for obcenities. As a general rule, to tell someone to purposely flood thier car to get "freeeeeeeeeee" parts is just plain stupid. Better to follow the advise on how not to flood your engine, which you obviously ignored. Another thing, you might want to read a book called"How to make friends and influence people", because you have done niether today.
