What do you feel at 6250 RPM?

There have been a lot of posts in various threads about loss of power, linear power, power increase, etc. at 6250PRM and up.

I'd like to see how this issue stacks up with current owners. As for myself, I feel no hesitation at full throttle, and a slight increase in acceleration at 6250, and a greater increase above 7000. My car seems to be working as designed, and it's a rush to run up to redline with windows open!

Edit - I stuck the last option in there just to give the non-owners a feeling of participation :)

same as you but it really kicks in around 7200rpm I think.

It feels plenty powerful at high RPMs (6000 and over) to me. I'm not sure what I should be looking for, though. For instance, today I had it in second and took it up to around 7000 rpm and then floored it. I felt a LOT of power.

So, based on the flat torque curves after 6250 that the dyno graphs were showing, does that mean I should not be able to feel that much increase in power above 6250?

If someone would explain what the car is supposed to feel like, it would be really helpful. Then, I could see if mine is functioning correctly. Thanks!

Torque x RPM = horsepower.
If the torque stays constant and the revs rise, so does horsepower.
If the torque drops off, but less than the revs rise, the horsepower still rises, but more slowly.
If the torque drops off faster, then the increase in revs can not make up for it.
The dyno curves published so far show the latter case.

For some information guys, my car just 'broke in'....

What does that mean?

Well with the most of you I had noticed that as I climbed the rev range the car was not as peppy as the torque curves presented it to be. My maximum power was coming from 3-4k it seemed, and after 6000 felt rather sluggish.

Today being the start of a weekend, I get to drive my car a little harder than normal since well... I don't drive much during the week as I'm working.

I wound out the car to 6000 and noticed, hey... it's pretty good up here today. Weird. I did it a few more times and there was definately some kick... I dropped the RPMs down just a tad under 6 and then back up, and the car lurched forward harder and harder. I was very, very pleased with this.

Some information... I have just broken 2000 miles (2044 to be exact). I put in a full tank of gas before this (the light was on, so I was pretty empty), Sunoco 93 Octane.

I am not sure if this gives some of you something to look forward to but I hope so! I was happy to see that some of the power *does* come back as suggested by reports and today I can verify it personally. Hope you all keep the car long enough to find out... winding out the gearbox today was *really* fun :)

good to hear ... thanks herc

I feel a power loss, it should be constant :(

Strangely, If I go for a hard lanuch, I feel the maximum power boost at about 7800 rpm in 1st gear. In 2nd gear, above 6500 it feels relatively flat, and in third, above 6500 it feels like the power is dropping off slightly..

As for 4th, 5th and 6th, I havn't had the pleasure of going that fast yet.. My top speed so far has been about 110..

Spin9k 08-30-2003 10:06 AM

I've been watching my tach very carefully and dropping back to 6k or 5k and then flooring it, and I can find no loss of power up high, actually a tiny butt-dyno BOOST above 7200+.

One thing I DO KNOW, if you do the old 1st to redline, 2nd to redline shuffle at full bore, you have to study what's going on awfully fast! :D , then just keep doing it over and over to minutely study each and every rev band moment, 'cause it do go fast!

So what is a person to think? That is a question. Mine hesitated til I had about 700 miles on it ... really bad above 7K... most of the time... but not all the time (?), although I didn't push much unit it HAD about that mileage on it.

Now that hesitation has seemingly gone away, and I see several other's cars here are experiencing that same (perceived) about face w/performance, but some not, even with higher mileage.

Could the ports openning problem not have been really solved completely by that vendor?? How can it be the ECU unless some were programmed differently than others?? Not Likely. Some THING is different between cars, leads one to think mechanical, not software. In any event - glad I have a goodie nevertheless! :) One day soon I may dyno it and find out for sure.

No hesitation, and there is a power increase!

I personally haven't driven my car yet, but my wife and my three brother-in-laws have. Yesterday, my wife's brother had it up to 115 mph, and stated that it did not hesitate and definately had a power increase all the way to 115. He said there was room to take it further. He wasn't willing to take it higher with his wife and my wife in the car with him. Not bad with 3 people in the car.
