What about Mazda rebuilds?

I'm posting this seperate because I didn't see this listed in all of the rebuilers listed. When I first joined the club, I remember seeing strong recommendations to get a rebuild directly from Mazda. Has that changed?

TeamRX8 06-09-2020 06:42 PM

you might be thinking of this thread

https://www.rx8club.com/series-i-tec...azmart-265994/

but I’d like to sincerely suggest that you consider looking for an appropriate existing thread (like the one linked above) and attach your question to it rather than start a new thread every time. It helps to keep ideas and information together rather than a bazillion threads that pop up when you try to do a search. There’s not anything much new under the sun that hasn’t already been posted/discussed on here starting from 17 or so years ago.

Nope, not that thread. Will post on the current rebuild post. Happy??

TeamRX8 06-10-2020 12:19 AM

fortunately my happiness is not dependent on the newb way of doing things, otherwise I would have committed seppuku a long time ago.

the forum will function better if people follow sound advice and use common sense though.

here’s another golden nugget for you:

RX-8 Discussion
General discussion about the RX-8 that doesn't fit in one of the specialty forums

there’s a whole big, wide forum area out there. maybe go poke around in the area where that previous thread link is posted.

try not to make too big of a mess, and please wash your hands before coming to the dinner table ...

I understand. Just a little aggravated these days. I have been dealing with FB & YT NAZI's censoring a lot of stuff. I took my frustration out on you. Actually I kept it cordial in your case or rather simply sacastic. I understand where you are coming from. At my age, I don't have the patience to read through 120 posts on the rebuild thread. I just tried to simplify the answer seeing Mazda was not on the list of rebuilds.

Petscar 06-10-2020 10:05 AM

And I must say you were cordial in the way you approached me. Unlike some other responses I've seen by others.

Are you thinking of Mazmart's thread on the Mazda reman teardown?

I don't think anything has changed from then. All remans are now made in Japan and quality seems to be good.

TeamRX8 06-10-2020 11:52 AM

or me in the past :D: but it’s a work in progress .

That’s why I gave you the link, but nobody is here to be serving new people off of silver platters while they lounge around in their pajamas.

There’s a certain effort required for a person to learn and educate their self. It’s not anybody else’s responsibility, but we’ll try to help when appropriate.

edit: deleted personal rant :).

Jinx, I remember reading the remans were being done in VA I believe. Initially they didn't do a good job but it got better as time went on. I didn't know they were now coming from Japan. In your opinion is it better to order a reman from Mazda or use someone like Pineapple?

Well, it depends on what you are looking for. If you have a Mazda dealer do it, they have a 1-year warranty or IIRC 10k-mile warranty on it, whichever comes first. A vendor/shop usually could take a Mazda reman and do some reliability mods to it such as taller apex seals from RX-7s before installing.

Chrishoky 06-11-2020 11:27 AM

I think its 12 months, 12K miles if the dealer installs the Reman and the engine comes direct from Mazda.

I just watched a video of the Vargas brothers tearing down a reman and it wasn’t pretty. Tolerances were really off and rusty water coming out of the jacket..it made me really disappointed in Mazda. This was an Rx7 motor but you would think they took even more care in those...

It seems to me it’s unfortunately more of a gamble going with a Mazda reman than taking a chance with a reputable rotary shop.
