well hell, screw driving like a granny........

If you saw my earlier post about driving like a grand-ma during my break-in period on my brand new car, I now have a new epiphany..........

I am trying to allow the proper break-in and drive conservatively.............but I found myself worrying way to much about gas mileage and other sundry things. Worrying way, way to much about things that weren't really part of the the original equation for buying this car..........(ie: forgetting about the enjoyments of actually pushing a car)

...............so tonite, I'm leaving a friend's house way out in the dark country. I get into my car, turn on the zenon lamps, and decide to have some fun.(finally)........whew.........my last car was a Miata so I am very aware of that last chance to hang on to the back end before you're in the trees..............I absolutely could not believe what my 8 was offering me!! Ran the gears, exploded thru curves like I was glued to the road, never felt a hint that the backend wanted to drift (and I was asking for such a thing). In a phrase, perfect power, braking and handling on some very dark and curvy country roads..............

So my mantra is, screw the mpg, I have never had so much fun in my life (well, er, that is behind the wheel of a car) as I did tonite.................like I said, it was an epiphany..................:))))))

Sweet, you started two mileage threads in two days!

Captain Amazing 04-28-2006 11:59 PM

Neat! it is spelled Xenon. :)

swerver 04-29-2006 12:00 AM

er......I should be beaten for that, granted................:)) but this isn't a mileage thread, rather a performance thread..........

That was my post. And it was the sales manager that said that.

Next time I need to go to the dealer (which I hope to avoid), I'm bringing him a copy of the periodic table.

Sorry my thread had such a profound negative influence on your ability to spell. :mdrmed:

Tamas 04-29-2006 12:20 AM

Never mind Ike, he is usually cool but sometimes can be annoying on purpose :p:

oh no, dont misread me. I found your thread hilarious. Didn't mean to disparage you in any way. I just found it one of those "add to the list" ways that car dealers will try anything to dupe you..............

...........I was only making a common generalty to my mis-spelling by calling upon upon your story...........I still think its funny....:)

There's 2 school of belief regarding break-in so maybe your driving like grandma is not worthwhile. And yeah I couldn't believe what the car had to offer, ran thru gears, thru curves, glued to th road, no skiddy rear end same thing that happens when you drive like a grandma. In case you didn't notice I'm trying to annoy you.

swerver 04-29-2006 12:32 AM

yiksing,

fablulous, a man of many words, or rather a sniper that doesn't have much to say where coherent words might help or illuminate.......

I take it you're one of the few here that believe this forum belongs to you peronally and that those that dain to post should somehow pass by your secretary first........................

..........sorry, I ain't playing your game. If you wish to offer constructive cristisism then that is fine with me, I am more than agreeable to listening (In fact, my mpg post stated the same)..

But if you wish to simply snipe here, I ask that you please:

1) give a reason and rational
2) or, go play with someone else

NgoRX8 04-29-2006 12:52 AM

^+1 and free post

Don't get killed....

swerver 04-29-2006 01:05 AM

No..............this bothers me..............

I can certainly understand and empathize with all here the ongoing and endless mpg questions. And I can completely understand those that ask posters to research and search before posting questions. Hell, I stalked this forum for 6 months before buying my 8.

But..........what kind of forum is this where some guy can dictate the flow of conversations and notes????

So, here I am extolling the virtues of the 8 in my own driving experiences and I got some guy that thinks he owns this place being purposefully and obviously antagonistic.............

Well, thanx a whole hell of a lot for this kind of treatment from such a great and inclusive environment..............................

Raptor2k 04-29-2006 01:20 AM

Welcome to the internet :)

swerver 04-29-2006 01:28 AM

fair enough Raptor2k................:))))))))))

Is there any need for more than one punctuation mark? It is really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really annoying. (did ya like that?)

alcimedes 04-29-2006 10:35 AM

One thing I like about this car is that although the mpg (for me at least) is 18.5 give or take, it's always 18.5.

I can drive like a grandma or a bat out of hell. Either way it's 18.5.

Kind of makes it a guilt free car.

stickman 04-29-2006 02:31 PM

What makes anyone think that a particular person decides who gets to post what? Some people are just insecure and cover it by being obnoxious or aloof, low self-esteem often results in poor social skills. That is a polite way of saying that just like in other aspects of everyday life, don't get angry at the assholes, simply pity them.

Yes, have fun with it, but be sure you warm it up before you go high in the revs, or you can cause damage to the engine. General rule of thumb is to keep it under 5k for the first 5 mins.
