Water Hazard

I was just wondering, the rotor accent on the bonnet, since it's a grove, will it actually trap water at the tip especially after rain?

not sure what Pooman was trying to say...

but if it does it could be a bad thing. I've seen bad water marks (or water etchings) from standing water on dark colored cars. This is due to standing water that reflects/instensives sun light into the paint. Very much like a magnifying glass (on an ant).

What Pooman was trying to convey was that someone had driven the car in the rain. The way that the rotor shape is grooved in the hood, at speed, the water is channeled along the groove towards the rear of the hood, and hits the windshield right in the driver's view.

Yes, me.

And yes, there was a large pool of water sitting in that groove, and as I got up to speed it directed the water right into my face.

I haven't encountered a driving rain yet, but even that light sprinkling was enough to alert me and prepare me for next time.

Hey, it saves having to deplete your washer fluid.

shhhhh...the nanny law (safety) police will recall our cars for a more boring hood or we'll have to wear helmets when driving an 8 or maybe a windshield wiper for the hood...

Caused more by acid rain than the sun.

Ede,
Rain-X washer fluid works great also, if you haven't tried it.

Yes it collects there if you're not careful. I was presented with a nice water spot/pool right in that area one morning... Good thing it's waxed.. must maintain that though.. or else I can predict that will be the first part of the hood to start discoloring...

I noticed as I was driving in the rain two small puddles of water gather about 4-6 inces down the "hood groove" on both sides. It builds up until it either blows off or you slow down and it runs off. On my silver it looked like a big blob of mercury. Provided a bit of amusement to detract from the rain. I also noticed a small amount of water gathered in the Mazda emblem on the nose and on the top of my front air dam. A quick wipe of both and problem solved.

That's what you have a beater for...so you don't have to drive the rx-8 in the rain.

(I know it's not a Ferrari or something, but it's like a Ferrari to me.)
