Or you could buy a less expensive RX-8, and drive it daily and sell it 4-5 years later with 150-200k miles for a pretty cheap price and the total cost is still x dollars. To me, the 8 buyer is much better off. A little less performance but much more time in the car is my ticket.

even the newer ferraris will hold up to daily driving well. Ferrari CEO insisted that a major design principle of the Modena was to have much more maintainability than a 355.
Sure maintenance is a lot more expensive than other cars but (1) that person is driving a ferrari, and (2) that person bought a ferrari.

Luckily a project at my furthest flung customer has come to a halt, otherwise I'd have cracked 50k in a year too. As it is, I've done 6500 in under two months.
To whoever suggested doing a long commute in a cheap runaround... nope! You've obviously never tried it, drives you nuts. Worth having a nice car -just- to do that in if you ask me.
