Velocity Red and first ticket
 

Well I guess it was bound to happen. I've had my Velocity Red '05 RX-8 for about 5 months now. I have a G-tech (it's an accelerometer that measures 0-60, 1/4 miles and cornering G's) that I forgot I had. I found it the other day. So I through it in my car so that when the opportune time came, I'd have it. Well, I through it on the windshield and waited for a red light. When I finally got one, I dialed it in, but the cross traffic light was turning red before I was done, so now I'm hurrying to get it setup. Didn't look around before I launched. I got part of the way through second gear (burned out most of first and chirped second) and I saw lights. Turned out the cop was pulling over the guy next to me. He was apparently a racer and had waited to flip his lights on at the guy until after I took off. Stupid me, lucky him. Word from the dumb, exhibition of speed is only fun when you don't get caught.

Though I chuckled when I read that... I'm sorry to hear you were caught.

Now I know why it's called Velocity Red.

yeah, maybe he can plead his case to the judge that it's only because his car is Velocity Red that got him in trouble.

a friend of a friend was in south philly one night about 3am doin donuts on the roads around the stadiums in his camaro and a cop came because he saw the smoke.

when the cop got him to stop he was like, "what the hell do you call that!"
the guy was like, "uhhhhhh, stupid?"

I think he got out of it with no ticket though.

Shouldn't do that kinda stuff man, cops are everywhere and tires are expensive

After a movie one night years ago, I decided to take the wife to get an ice cream cone. As I turned into the shopping center, I noticed the parking lot was glistening wet with the light rain that had been falling. I was driving my Z-28 with the 305 V-8 at the time, and I couldn't resist the impulse to fishtail and slide a little on my way through the empty lot.
Well, the lot wasn't entirely empty. A county sheriff saw my little episode, pulled me over in the lot, and made me stand in the rain in front of my car for fifteen minutes as he ran my license and registration. I don't know what was worse- standing in the rain like some common criminal, or being subjected to fifteen minutes of ragging by my wife as the sheriff processed my ID.
The ragging worked! The sheriff figured I had caught enough holy hell from my wife that he let me go with just a warning.

Lesson learned. I'm now very careful as I cruise around in my VR RX-8.

VR RX8 as well - I have been stopped twice for speeding - NO TICKETS - It is great to have a brother in law who was a NYC cop and gives me as many PBA cards as I need. SWEEET!

I'm not sure that teaches the right lesson.......

I got my Fraternal Order of Police stickers by making an honest pledge when they called my house during their fund-raising drive. ;)

I actually like the red a lot, but I couldn't even consider it - too flashy. I figured it would get speeding tickets while parked. They look wicked fast - might as well paint, "Please Cite Me For 25-Over" on the sides.

What they say about the red cars is exactly true. I have had mine just under a year, and in that time, I've gone to the 4 hour traffic school course, the 8 hour traffic school course, and the 16 hour traffic school course, I have gotten 1 ticket that stuck, a cop that took my license and never wrote a ticket, just figured standing in line at the dmv would be bad enough, 2 tickets that a lawyer got me out of, and 1 supervision which I have been under for about 8 months (crosses fingers). And to top that off, a judge that knows me by name! And the funny thing is, when I am really pushing it, nobody around, when I am going about 10 over, about the speed of traffic maybe a little more, bam, cop.

Yeah, I was afraid of that. I've been stopped 'for a chat', but not cited at least once in every car I've ever owned the past 15 years and none of them were especially remarkable cars - that means it's me (or more specifically, my pushing of the limits). Shiny red sports cars seem to get all the real serious scrutiny and attract most of the attention on the road. Not fair, but not my problem either. ;)

(on top of that, as a 33-year-old dad everyone would go, "oh, *there's* a midlife crisis in progress," if I drove a red sports car - blue draws plenty of those comments as it is)

I've only been pulled over once in my VR...but I'm usually very cautious. The one time I did get pulled over, I took a slow sharp left at a light in front of the police station and shifted to 2nd letting the clutch out about mid-turn. My RPMs were high enough to throw the ass out so I counter-steared and pushed in the clutch and rolled up to the next red light. This was the first week I had the car... He let me go with a warning, but you know it sucks when they ask you, "Do you know why I pulled you over?" And you have to say, "Yes sir." :mdrmed:

got pulled over on Saturday in VR. I was going the opposite direction as the cop and was going less than the speed limit (45). As soon as he passed me, he made a u-turn and was speeding towards me (on on-coming traffic lane) as though I was some wanted criminal. Suddenly lights went on and I pulled over.

First question, "is this your car"? I was like yes bitch (just kidding). He then said my tint was too dark. He made me roll-up my windows because I rolled em down before he got to me. He used a light meter to read my tint and told me it was 11% and gave me a sormon.

Totally sucks - i thot my tint was 20% (illegal) but I guess the RX8 comes with some tint on the window from factory and adding 20% brought the total to 11%.

There are 3 types of exhibition of speeed, in California atleast. The cop thought I was trying race the guy next to me, but I convinced him other wise. So he gave me the minimum exhibition of speed, C. Anywho, max fine is $500 with 2 points on the record. I'll take some traffic school to get rid of the 2 points and everthing is cool.

Yellow attracts every insect in the neighborhood, who all think it's the mothership or something!

The other day I was speeding and passed a cop, he kept going for a few blocks and then made a u-turn. When I seen this, I turned on the next side street and hammered the accelerator. I made about 5 turns and came back to the road when I was sure the cop was gone. I've used this technique several times and it has worked every time. :cool:

i've been forced to do that a couple times myself. once i was on the highway and exited this on ramp around 80, then noticed everyone was doing 55 and saw a cop in the mid section of the highway with the blinker on. luckally he couldn't make the turn right away, so i took the next exit and went to a burger king for a spontainous 20 minute lunch.

I did the same thing last week. Was leaving the grocery store(on the main street) and forgot that I was in an area where "the speed limit changes because school is let out" but I didn't realize this so I wasn't aware of any change in normal speed limit and passed a cop doing about 45 in a "30". He made a u-turn so I jumped into the right lane and stomped on it then shot down a side street and rounded the corner. As I was passing one of the side streets I looked down to the main street and saw him turn off onto the opposite street that I was on. Cops always have to ruin the fun..

actually there have been a few cops on this forum that have said that the color of the car really doesn't matter. They look more to see what the driver looks like.

Simply put if a 40+ guy like myself is speeding in my V Red next to a 21 year old in any color....the young guy gets pulled over. If you have tinted windos and/or any stickers...you get pulled over even quicker.


I've driven three red cars now and have never been ticketed in them.
