Uneven Stock Springs

I've had my 8 for a lil over 2 months and have about 2600 miles on her. I've started to notice that the rear seems to be riding noticibly lower then the front. At least, if not more then a 1' 1/2 difference. Is this normal, or would there be a reason for this? Anyone else experienced it? normal? BTW, the trunk is empty, and there is no extra added weight.

and yes, i searched it out first...no go.

Lets hear the thoughts :grouphug:

if you mean the gap between the tires and the wheel well... yes the gap in the front is larger than the rear...

normal..

beers

take the dead hooker(s) out of the trunk.

Stavesacre21 07-05-2006 02:18 AM

yea, i was refurring to the gap between the 2...which give the illusion that it sits lower in the back. I would think that the gaps would be about the same stock, but it wouldn't seem so...and just like the ad in car and driver, it appears perfect.

Guess it may be a lil obsessive compulsive, but I just wanted to make sure that some part of the suspension isn't off.

and no mercury...i dumped them before i crossed back into Ohio...

You can easily check if your suspension has any problems. Let the car sit on a level road, and whip out the manual. Go to Specs, and make note of the dimensions, especially the height figures. Take a ruler, and measure your own car. Compare. Check. If a discrepancy comes up, report it to your dealer, and let them fix it.

oh and i checked after i got out of work...the left rear well has almost 2 inches less then the right rear well. and I'm on an even surface.

Looks like i might be playin with a dealership again :banghead:

raspyrx7 07-05-2006 01:48 PM

maybe the 06's are designed that way so as to plant more weight on the rear, or account for fat drivers

Razz1 07-05-2006 02:57 PM

You still might not be measuring correctly. The service mgr./mechanic will show you.

Joe_914 07-05-2006 03:08 PM

Ride hieght IS NOT measured on the fenders. But rather designated points UNDER the car.
2" difference right to left rear does seem WAY out of spec. I would suspect a blown shock. loss of gas charge which is what provides some lift to the car.
I try to adjust in a bit of forward rake to a car. 1/4 lower infront as measured by lift donuts. I don't mess with the RX-8 and it seems fine.

Stavesacre21 07-06-2006 07:26 PM

well i took it to the dealer, and they popped it on the lift and did some figuring. They told me that it was only .29 inches off of center, and that the other was off inversely the same. However, they said that mazda won't cover the repair until it gets in excess of .39 inches difference. I was about to flip...how long is that gonna take until i gets worse?!

They claim that there is a problem, but that it's not off enough yet to do anything about it. What a crock of @#$%.

NgoRX8 07-06-2006 07:33 PM

haha, hmm go out driving more.

cjkim 07-06-2006 07:38 PM

time to lower? :]

Stavesacre21 07-06-2006 10:35 PM

lower? I couldn't imagine! The RX-8 already sits beautifully low, and I couldn't imagine needing it any lower.

Heck, the Cobra looks like a 4x4 compared to the 8.

I'm not gonna fuss over it though...cause it's not all that big of a deal

kmg1186 07-11-2006 06:55 PM

can we get a picture?

NgoRX8 07-11-2006 07:08 PM

i'd be funny to see the rear fender wells offsetted by 2 inches. lol

Stavesacre21 07-12-2006 02:40 AM

when it's your somewhat new car, it's not as funny as seeing someone elses.

It doesn't seem as bad at the moment, and even though i could swear I was on level land, I must not have been. It's ok right now.
