Umm, Like Flooding, What else do we talk about...
Hey all,
I searched, but it didn't like the number 10. So let me say something that may have been said to death. When I start my car, sometimes, it turns and turns. I was told to keep going for at least 10 seconds by my dealer, and so far it’s always kicked over. I’ve only had my ride for 2 months though. |
Mine always turns over in about 3 seconds.

Every once in a while my car turns for about 3.5 to 4 seconds? It always kicks over as well. It doesn't happen very often and I always start to think "OH CRAP!" and wonder if it isn't flooded. Just about then the car kicks in and fires up? I have no idea what this is but I have yet to experience the flooding issue. It always starts.
Are you in cold weather? I am and since I didn't get delivery on my car until 10/20 I have only driven it when it's been below 45* F. I take that back I drove it to Santa Cruz over the holidays and it was around 60-65* F there. I also didn't notice any issues with starting on that trip. |
So far no starting problems (knock on wood)

fuel pump pressurizing?

I've also experienced this in my other vehicle so there is no need to panic. Just turn the key a little bit slower when starting your car and everything should be just fine. :D you must be too anxious to get in and go drive this wonder of a car ;) |
Originally posted by moRotorMotor I think I know why you are having this minor problem. I've had this happen to me once as well and realized that when you turn your key a little bit slower the car starts just fine. When your key reaches the "ON" position, the gas pump engages ( I think) and and proper pressure is reached in a short amount of time. But if you turn the key too quickly, the gas pump isn't allowed sufficient time to reach the required pressure and the car seem to take a few extra cranks in order to turn over. I've also experienced this in my other vehicle so there is no need to panic. I was getting this once in a while, too, and I sure as hell start the thing up as quickly as possible. Will have to give this a shot.

we were calling this "initializing" awhile ago. turn the key to on wait a couple of seconds for the dash lights to come on and then a few turn off. then start. if you listen carefully before the start, you can hear the fuel injectors/pump/MOP run thru a cycle. i do this every time i start and have had no start issues what so ever.
