ugg, 1st Speeding ticket in my RX8

OK, I guess I should have seen this coming. I'm driving around town like a bat outta hell, and hadn't been pulled over yet. I guess my luck ran out.

Driving down a 4 lane road (2 lanes both ways), slower cars in the right lane. I knew an intersection was coming up, and 99% of the cars make a right onto the one lane road. Didn't wanna be behind this slowass Buick. So I decide to go around them. Now, you know that I know that you know that there's no way in hell I casually pass them. Well, I zoom pass them, and as I do, I see cop lights flashing. Oh great! TWO cop cars pull me over. Was doing 66mph in a 30. Oh boy! $290 and 5 points. Worse thing is, I didn't have my police department badge with me (I'm a network guy working for both Police and courts). I would have gotten off if I had my badge with me.

So, lessen learned here is that if you buy a RX8, be prepared to pay extra for speeding tickets....hahahhaa Its inevitible, because the car is so much fun to drive, and its so easy to double the speed limit without really knowing you are, becuase the 8 drives so smoothly.

I'm such a dumbass.

enforcer 01-09-2008 08:28 AM

You've got to resist the temptation when it arises, because sure as eggs a police car will be right around the corner when you put the foot down...!

But above all don't sweat it JohnCarrJnr...it happens to most of us at one point of time or another...

dmc27 01-09-2008 09:01 AM

5 points for one speeding ticket??? That's f8cked up. Glad I don't have the point system here.

Sounds like you have the connections needed to make that ticket go away.

So true...just when I thought I was safe to redline in 2nd...I got busted too and if I was doing 50km over I'd loose my car for a week and get a $2000 fine!

1st ticket in 15yrs!!

Let it be a lesson like mine was to me... get a radar detector...hehehhe:yelrotflm
They are illegal here so I can't use one... :(

The Drunk IT Guy 01-09-2008 09:37 AM

Speed on highways/freeways, not on business/residential.. I've been driving like that for over a year and I haven't been caught yet.

Radar helps a little.. I also don't have the aftermarket exhaust, quietness is best.

Leesha 01-09-2008 09:48 AM

How about my car...VR...quietness doesn't work. They see me from miles away and pull me over for no reason at all...

its because it was double the speedlimit in a 30 mph residential/business zone.. it carries 5 points here in michigan too.. luckily havent had one to worry about.

enforcer 01-09-2008 10:02 AM

Redline in 2nd is fraught with danger unless you're on the track or the freeway. In reality however these are the only places you'll be safe from getting a ticket.

Once you start doing 20 - 30 mp/h over the speed limit, things start to get very ugly if you're caught....:scared:

RotaryP7 01-09-2008 10:05 AM

Happened to me last month.. I got my first speeding ticket.. I still need to go to that damn traffic school class..
yeh, I hitz a milestonez.. 1k..

CostasX8 01-09-2008 10:14 AM

Last month happened to me also:rant: Doing 120km/h instead of 50:( I have to go to court for this one,but thank god the system in my country sucks so i wont be called for a year or so....I believe the fine is 175$ at-least and 5 points.I already have 4 points(Using a mobile phone while driving) and the max is 12 points so i drive very slowly now for the next two-three years :) :)

OMG---I was doing 43 over thank god I didn't redline all the way...I got upto 7000rpm and decided to drop my speed just in case...

dothackRAVE 01-09-2008 10:44 AM

I redline my car in second every week. In 1st, slamming the gas down only results in massive wheel spin.

Never got caught. Did I mention my record highway speed was 114mph (says so on my GPS)? Just drive slow for a bit, look out for cops behind you, and then drive faster, slowing down for blind spots where cops may be hiding.

enforcer 01-09-2008 10:45 AM

It would be interesting to see how these speeding fines in Queensland, Australia compare with you guys...1 x $US = $1.30AUS, 60 mp/h = 100 km/h

Less than 13 km/h over the speed limit:
A$100 + one demerit point.

At least 13 km/h but not more than 20 km/h over the speed limit:
A$150 + three demerit points.

More than 20 km/h but not more than 30 km/h over the speed limit:
A$250 + four demerit points.

More than 30 km/h but not more than 40 km/h over the speed limit:
A$350 + six demerit points.

More than 40 km/h over the speed limit:
A$700 + eight demerit points and six month suspension.

dothackRAVE 01-09-2008 10:46 AM

20mph over and you get suspended? That's what I call pwnt.

enforcer 01-09-2008 10:51 AM

It gets worse...double demerit points apply to drivers who commit more than one of the following offences within a 12 month period:

21 - 30 km/h = 8 points = A$250
31 - 40 km/h =12 points = A$350
41 km/h and above = 16 points and 6 months suspension = A$700

enforcer 01-09-2008 10:56 AM

..and if you collect 12 or more demerit points in a 3 year period you're on notice.

You'll either go back to a Provisional licence (and live on 4 points) or you'll lose it...

Mike06 01-09-2008 11:26 AM

So let me briefly say a thing or two...

i hate cops with a strong passion.

IMHO, they are all power-tripping, egotistical, corrupt bastards. if they are in a town or neighborhood with almost a zero crime rate, they will get their shits and giggles from pulling people over and giving them tickets for the most outrageous of reasons. some of the tickets they give out really makes you think..."is this really justice? or is giving a ticket for going 5 mph over the speed limit really such a noble act for the interest of public safety on the part of the officer" police don't care about justice...their only interest is to give as many tickets as they can when nothing is going on so that they can exceed their quota for the month and get a promotion! :squint:

in my rx-8, i have received more than my fair share of tickets.

i have received SEVEN tickets in my rx-8 (and one driving my mini van) in less than a one year period! :icon_bs:
now i'll admit...my first 2 or 3 tickets in my rx-8 was due to me being a reckless bastard, and i have had to endure through many sessions of traffic school early on in my 8's life. after those first couple of tickets however, it was just RIDICULOUS for why i was being pulled over and written a citation for. i am 18 years old, a studly looking young man who always has a girl or two in his nice sports car. if i was an officer, i would immediately be thinking "hmm...when i was a kid i was a poor f*ck and my parents couldnt even get a station wagon...i feel bad and inferior so now i'm going to take out of bitterness on this innocent kid" and i too would be tailing my ass for SEVERAL MILES just waiting for me to mess up in the least bit and get smacked with a citation. after all, i am in the gestapo league of corrupt traffic officers of america!

at the end of the day...justice all sums up to what kind of promotion is in store for the prosecuting officer :icon_no2: :icon_no2:

Leesha 01-09-2008 11:30 AM

I had to pay $330 approx. for going 43km over and lost 4 points. Went to court and paid $160 and lost 3 points instead...

Wow...bet you can't beat 50km over and loses car for 1wk. $2000 fine...

Mike06 01-09-2008 11:37 AM

ALWAYS take your traffic ticket to court!
even if you know you have a zero chance of winning your case and your guilty as hell, ALWAYS GO!

you never know what kind of deal or opporunity might be offered to you, if the officer might not show up at all and your case ends up being dismissed, or hell, even to just piss of the corrupt f*ck of an officer and make him drag his ass all the way to court just for you :)

Mike06 01-09-2008 11:40 AM

just take me as an example...i have disputed every single one of my eight tickets in court (all that occurred within under one year!)and i have yet to get my license suspended! :smoker:

not to mention i was still a minor when the great majority of these ticktes happened :naughty:

You got it dead on. Every cop in the world has something against YOU in particular. It couldn't have anything to do with you breaking a law written by the politicians you elected. Which by the way, the police are charged with BY LAW to enforce. And no, I'm not a cop. I agree it would suck to get a ticket for going 5 over, but you still can't blame anyone but yourself. It is still against the law. It doesn't make it legal just because everyone else does it. :shocking:

no...not me in particular...
just any young looking male with a nice sports car such as the rx-8.

come on! you've got to be kidding yourself if you think that traffic police don't just devote themselves to looking for victims that fit the description i just provided, AND following them for miles on end waiting for them to mess up!

is that justice? or a lesser form of prejudice? i'll let you decide...

technically, police can give you a ticket for going 38 mph in a 35 mph zone. if they do that... i ask again, is that justice? :icon_no2:

RotaryP7 01-09-2008 12:49 PM

If you guys hate cops, just post that on my recent speeding ticket thread.. lmao..

Dude, why are you arguing with an 18 year old studly teenager? You know when you're 18, its Me against the world mentality. He'll eventually grow up.

Yes, I'm going to go to court and see if the judge will have mercy on me. I'll wear my badge and just admit I made a mistake. Hopefullly the judge will drop or cut the points.

Mike06 01-09-2008 01:44 PM

rofl go ahead and make all the jokes you want about my age. you know that all i have have been saying in my posts is true to a certain degree...

just look at yourself, your going to court and i congratulate you on doing so whether it was because of my advice or not. the point is...it WAS my advice and its something i did recommend doing.

gasp! i'm not so crazy as you think

i guess the "little foolish, youngin 18 year old" got something right huh big poppa?
