Turbocharge or Supercharge???

Would an rx8 perform better (in general) with a turbo installed or a supercharger installed?? What would be the benefits and downfalls of each???

^This will be able to answer your question better than I can. Also read through the other threads in the "Major Horsepower Upgrades" section.

If you like "whooosh" sounds then go with turbo.

If you like "whiiiirrrrrr" sounds then go with super.

I dont own either.. but SC's usually cost more... but i heard they require less maintenance for the renesis then the turbo. Could be wrong though. I could swear someone in this club gets like 28mpg highway too with his Pettit S/C and the Series 2 tranny.

Personally i would pick the S/C. Sound of the belt screaming just compliments the rotary screaming.

if he likes "bang" or "puff", he should go either.
both would reduce the life of the engine by a lot.

The real question is... why would you do it? Are you going to race the car? There will be short term benefits, but there will be a shortened life expectancy of the engine. To summarize it... short term happiness, short term engine life. Good luck with the choice.

Isn't it possible to get a reliable turbo that won't shorten the engine life by very much? I read somewhere on this forum that if you do it right, it won't affect the engine life at all. What if you were to keep it below 8psi at all times..obviously that means less power, but far more reliable right?

Adding power will ALWAYS decrease life expectancy, no matter what.

That being said, you can run a conservative level of boost to keep it lasting longer. Also, keeping up on maintenance is a sure way of prolonging the life. There is no "set-in-stone" number for how long it will last...

Forget the turbo and paint your car purple. 100HP right there.

QFT.

Here's a good starter tip. Best to choose an FI type based on how it performs and NOT how it sounds.
