Was driving out of the parking lot from work and going up the big bridge on the lynnway and got a misfire!!! I spent the the next hour freaking out. It was definately a strange sound when it misfired but its officially time for a tune up.

Yes, I'm serious, no, I'm not joking. It all depends on how much research you do. Literally, that is the entire price difference.

You could find a tune-up kit (coils, plugs, wires) for $245 on eBay. Just find a reputable shop that knows how to do it, good luck.

If you have some mechanical aptitude, it's not very hard to do yourself.
Many members say plugs, wires, & coils should be replaced every 30k or so.
You'll save a lot if you DIY.

Search here for how. Pretty simple if you have a place to work. Coils from the top, plugs through the left wheel arch. Then clean MAF, ESS and drink beer.

without knowing the mileage etc, i would recommend the following:

1. clean the ESS sensor, its fairly easy to get from the bottom, or the side. the top requires removal of the air box, so its easy to do when you change the air filter.

2. do the NVRAM/20 brake stomp reset thing. it resets the ESS profile in the ECU, turn key on, step on brakes like an angry monkey until oil pressure gauge moves, done.

3. new spark plugs.
3a. make sure the plug wires clip on tightly to the plugs.
3b. extra credit step is to pull the wires and measure the resistance, FSM says they should be between 1k Ohm and 4k Ohm, the lower the better.

4. put a timing light on it, and make sure you have spark on all four coils. replace as needed. some people say to use an HEI checker for this and that is fine too.

5. replace air filter.
5a. extra credit step; pull the airbox, and clean it, pull the air box serving tray, and you can see the power steering connector (EPS) and a couple of grounds, and you can make sure these are clean and tight

6. check the belts! they last a long time.

7. you should be looking for leaks while you're working on it, with the air box out you can see the top of the radiator, look for leaks, the thermostat area likes to leak, etc.

8 change fluids as required.

9 lube the locks and hinges. any light oil works.

10. tighten the under cover screws, they like to fall out. new ones are 9CF6-00-516B, plastic clips are BC1D-56-145 screws are cheap, undercover is not.
