Trunk wont open!!
 

i recently got my RX-8 and i found out that the trunk button doesnt work? also i cant open my trunk with the remote?? Am i just pushing the button wrong in the car or did any of this happen to any of yall at the beginning?? I can only open the trunk with the key. :mad:

There is a remote disable button inside the glove compartment......push it.

Gomez.

1. Open the glovebox

2. Locate the button that enables/disables the trunk solenoid

3. Push it.

4. Test the remote.

If it works, RTFOM - there's lots of useful info in there.

If it doesn't work, it's under warranty, see your dealer.

Next time that happens, grab your hatchet and start whacking away at it. :eek: At some point the trunk will open and your problem will be solved.

Thanks for the late Saturday laugh! At least he was able to diagnose and fix the problem without an embarassing trip to the dealer... :cool:

Im a new member but have been reading the threads here for months, many issues resolved thanks to you guys but still chasing down the trunk release issue. 2 questions. #1 Where and which relay is the trunk release relay and #2 how can I test/bypass the glove switch. I have an 04 GT. I have already checked and exercised the glove switch and replaced the trunk actuator. Still hear the click upon request, but no release by either the trunk release switch under the steering wheel, nor the key fob. My only access to the trunk is the key. All other functions work perfectly. Love my 8 and have restored it 99.9% but this last issue is being difficult. Suspect the glove switch is bad but dont know for sure. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Boricua13 thank you!!! This is exactly what I was looking for. Thought the relay was under the hood. You are awesome, will keep you posted. Won't get to it till this weekend but 99% sure this is the culprit.

What's the fix for an '07?

There is no button in the glovebox.

Boricua 13 thank you!!! I searched high and low to find that relay, but that diagram got me where I needed to be. Bothe the trunk button under the dash and the key fob open the trunk again. Wish I would have tested the relay before I spent $30 on a trunk actuator, but hey my 8 is 100% restored now. Thanks guys for all the helpful threads. I repaired 90% from the information in this forum.

Only 2 components left then; trunk actuator and relay. My advice, test the relay first, it cost about $20 for the relay and $30+ for a used trunk actuator. So read the post by Boricua 13 and test the relay first. If the relay works, you can pick up a trunk actuator off of Ebay or hmu cause I just bought one and didn't think to test the relay first so I'm rockin' a spare.

Thanks for posting your advice as it was indeed my trunk relay which was broken. Bought a used one and popped it in and the trunk lid is opening with interior and key fob release buttons.

So good to have it working again, very tricky to get the relay out as on RHD cars its right beside the throttle pedal.
But having your trunk or boot as we call it in the UK, working again is great, was living with using the key to open the trunk for over a year. :(

Nice job searching and getting the issue solved! I have heard of that relay failing here and there and now that our cars are getting older, its good that this info is still out there

Found it. Thanks to this forum

Did you just pull the relay out or is there a latch you have to release.
Mine is slightly mobile and difficult to get hands in to access properly.
Any advice welcome.

the on/off Valet button in the GLOVEBOX was only on the 2004 and 2005 models, there is also a relay that can cause this problem if it fails

The valet button is working.
I think my problem is with the relay in the right side of the drivers foot well
However, I didn't want to pull too hard on the relay before checking that was the correct way to remove it. I know that some relays have a clip or some other retaining device but unfortunately I am not flexible enough to see if one exists in that particular position. In fact, I can only just reach it with one hand.
I would appreciate it if someone can confirm there is no latch of any kind and I will get back to it with more confidence that I'm not going to break something.
