It's not the car.. it's me..

I can't seem to get the hang of driving this thing non quickly.. Especially from a stop. I can take off like a bat out of hell but I cant roll up nice and easy. I've been driving this thing for 8 months now and I still stall from time to time when there's people infront of me. And my shifts are jerky when going slow.

However, if the road is clear, I can take off, and shift up nice and smooth without problems!

Anyone else have problems? Incidently I double clutch downshift just fine!

 

Are you letting up on the clutch slowly as you start to press down on the gas?

Feathering is key, or you get bounced around like a second rate **** flick.

I stalled the car once, on the first day that I had it. Embarassing because I was the first car in the turn lane when the light turned green.

 

i agree, when i'm in traffic im afraid of ruining my clutch because the only way to be smooth is to feather it and half press. This is part of why i like backroads, may add a few miles but i dont have to deal with traffic, the other part is all about the zoom zoom.

Yes, but I tend to let off too quickly. or sometimes I feather the clutch and my accelorator foot gets antsy and I rev up and eat away at my clutch.. if traffic is REAL slow I feather the clutch until it is fully engaged with no gas.. that seems to work, but I have a similar problem with my 1st to second shift.. unless I'm accelerating quickly.

 

A clutch is a wear item. It's made to be used, just like brakes and tires. One of the costs of owning a manual over an automatic.

Just be nice to it, buy it dinner and some flowers and it'll last a long time.

i havent stalled my car after about the first 2 or 3 days of owning it. just dont drop the clutch and always be careful

 

I've driven manual for over 15 years and I find that the 8's clutch is not among the best around. I still often find myself searching for the sweet spot when shifting down to 2nd, when taking a turn at speed. I don't seem to be able to get it spot-on every time.

 

You certainly aren't the only one having issues. This is the first MT car I've owned. I don't have any problems stalling but its hard to be consistently smooth with low speed shifts for me. Also its wierd adjusting to the jerkiness when going slow while in 1st or 2nd gear.

 

I can down just fine! That's funny. I can go from 50, break into 2nd without a problem, but I cant go from 0 to 20 without jerking/stalling

I stall because I don't rev it high enough.. I didn't have the problem before, it's just that i've been driving alot of loaner/rental cars lately.
