A trip to the mountains

This weekend my wife and I took our first real road trip in the 8 to Taos N.M. Since we live in a very flat area, we have not had the opportunity to test the handling of the car. This weekend we did and I must say that the 8 is the most responsive, agile and best cornering car I have EVER driven. What a fun trip.

On our way there, I was pushing the car a little on the twisties up Cimarron Canyon pass, after working my way through slower traffic. As we neared the top of the pass where there are several hairpin turns, I looked in the rear view mirror and saw a Mustang GT coming up on me. As he approached in a straight away, I pushed the 8 a little harder into the corners. The Stang couldn't hold my wheel. He would catch up once the road straightened out, but I would lose sight of him in the corners. Smoked the GT!!! He passed me later between Eagle Nest and Angel Fire, as I was adhearing to the speed limit as I did most of the trip.

Cruising through the turns at the recommended speeds was like pulling teeth. :boring: I had to hold the car back, it just wanted to run. What a great car.

I wasn't sure whether to post this here or in the lounge, so if you need to move it , I understand.

Thanks, it was a lot of fun.

BTW, I got 23 mpg on the way there and 22.5 on the way home. I will take that.

Wow! Even while banging around the mountains you got 23 and 22.5 mpg? What model year do you have?

Myself I'm heading up to VT this weekend and I live in MA. I just can't wait to hit those mountain roads. Should be fun I hope. I just pray I dont get asked by every damn teeneager that see's me "Do you drift that thing?" I soooo fear hearing that question. lol

The yellow signs that tell you a curve is coming up. I guess those are speed limit signs for that section of the road. I always use them as a guide to the severity of the curve.

not that unusual. on my last drive up to the tail of the dragon, then a run up and then back down, then home i got 21.7mpg. almost did the whole trip on 1 tank, and its about a 320mile round trip drive through mostly mountains and small towns. that's with a '04 6sp with a build date of 10/03.
