Well, here's the story. My 2nd gear syncros were just trashed so I went to the dealership since it's still covered under the warranty. (Bought the car as a certified pre-owned, not at a mazda dealership) They told me they wont cover it because I have lightweight pulleys and modifications void the warranty.

First off, the car came with these pulleys and they're from Mazdaspeed so I don't see a problem here. After talking with them for days, they finally gave in to pay for the new transmission after hearing that I was going to get a lawsuit filed.

Now they're driving me to the point of insanity. They got me to pay a tear-down fee of $300 to verify the problem for the inspector. I guess being a mechanic for 6 years means my opinion is false and unconsidered. All this fighting took a time frame of 1 month with my car just sitting around at the shop.

Now, it gets even better. After agreeing with everything, they decided to just order a new transmission. The service department told me it would take 2-3 business days and one day to get it completed. At this point I was glad and thought my stress was done and over with.

One week later, I called to check the status and now I was informed they had to special order the transmission from the Mazda Plant in Hiroshima and I had to wait another 7-10 business days starting today.

The dealership told me they're not exactly sure and said it might be shorter or longer because they haven't done a special order. (Which sounds even more assuring...not) Just wondering if someone else had to wait on a transmission from overseas.

Trying to find what timeframe I should look for. It's irritating being carless for nearly 2 months now.

Whomever is holding the warranty for your car is screwing you around quite a bit, though I'm sure you are aware of that.

If a transmission actually has to be ordered from Japan, then I'm surprised it's that quick of a delivery time. That sounds more accurate if they were ordering from a recent "parts boat" (or whatever) in CA. I talked with a local dealer here the other day, and they stated that orders placed that have to be actually filled in Japan see more like a 4-6 month wait time. It's long anyway, but the added trouble of how Japan is still in the aftermath of last March's tsunami.


I gather you don't have any rental car stipulation in the warranty document?

Sadly no, but I give them two weeks before I consider speaking with my lawyer again. I'll give them benefit of doubt for one last time, and I'm being very generous with my patience.

WOW.. I am speechless... but not surprised.

2 months is 2 long...

Anyway, Mazda should have a transmission factory here in the U.S., Canada, or South America to have a faster response time.
