Trading in My G35 for an 07 RX-8
Guys,
I'm very seriously considering ordering a 2007 RX-8 GT 6-speed manual from my local dealer. I'm looking for an 07 Stormy Blue Mica w/ Sand Leather, Appearance and Rotary pkgs, and Navigation. I'll be trading in my 2003 Infiniti G35. It's been a great car. What are your opinions? What should I look for? They have an 06 GT (Galaxy grey) with 5K in rebates. Should I stick with the 07 due to mechanical bugs? I hate to trade the G35, it's torquey and fun too. Thanks, ShortCut |
You're on a rx8 forum, so...
That would be a great decision. The RX-8 is a funner car to drive, imo. You'll be taking long ways home instead of shortcuts :p:. All the bugs were worked out in the 06 year, so go with the 06 if the deal is right. |
The 2006 should have all the bugs worked out. GG is a nice color. I'd take the 5K n rebates. If you think the G35 is fun I think you'll be plenty pleased with the 8. ;) It's lighter, more nimble, excellent throttle response, balance, transmission, and on and on. Torque and power are not as much of an issue of you know how to keep the car in the power band...i.e. rev matching etc. :D:

I was (check out my "electrical fire") an RX8 owner, and my boyfriend owns a 2006 G35 coupe. The G35 is a lot more smooth, and faster, but the Rx8 was more fun to drive, especially around turns! It is not as comfy as the G35, but if you want more of a sports car, you'll love the Rx8

Check out the G35 forum and run a search on their seat issues. It's been a major issue for some of them. There is one pretty comical thread of a nightmare one guy had with the seats. He had to trade the thing in I think a week or two after he drove it off the lot....huge loss. |

resale isnt so great so take all the discounts you can though the difference may not be that huge between 06 and 07 .. test drive plenty for sure .. and enjoy the new ride
|
RX-8 is more fun. I bought it just for that reason even though I think the G35 coupe looks a lot better. Infact, I think the G35 coupe is one of the best looking cars on the road.
Get the 06 and take the discount. 1 model year is not worth paying extra. The RX-8 has horrible resale value unlike the G, so think about it... If I had to do it all over again, I would buy used again and save! |
The G35 is more luxury and faster. The 8 is more sporty.. Your call..
|
the 8 looks much more better and sportier
|
The 8 is where its at :)
|
i have a 03 G35 and a 04 RX8... if i was forced to go with one, the RX8 wins hands down
|
G35 has a numb driving experience. I've driven my buddies g35 with comparable suspension mods as my 8, and the "thirty-fizzle" pales in comparison in terms of handling, fun, and feedback from the car. I also think the 8's clutch is better, and the seats are more suportive, and the 8's interior is of higher quality too. BTW my friend is no faster in his g35 than me in my 8 (results are driver-dependent :)).
As long as you do your research and know the car before you buy it, you will not be sorry! I was obsessed with the g35 when it came out, actually sold my friend on getting it, after I drove the 8 I changed my tune all together. |
Unless the G35 is having some sort of problems, I wouldn't do it.
|
Just drive the RX-8 on a few twisty roads and you will learn how wonderful this car really is.
Extended test drives. |
Rx-8 2007
Have the motor problems been worked out? The dealer ( I know I know) said the motor was the same has the 05 he's replacing.
|
The motor is the same, and has nothing wrong with it. Only the ecu software was not injecting enough oil at low and mid rpms. If the car was in a very hot dry climate and was not driven hard it may have problems.

The 8 is a great car. It's not the same as the G35/350. It has its own "areas" of expertise, like corners. Have you test driven one? |
The RX-8 is the only four-seater under $60,000 that truly handles like a sports car. Simple as that. Reviewers will claim that the Evo and such handle like sports cars, but the balance and driving position are all wrong. Something like the G35 coupe--beautiful car--lacks the agility necessary to call a car a sports car.
I've driven over 400 different cars since 1999. The RX-8 is at the top of my list if someone wants the best handling they can get in a livable car. The price makes it a bargain. As others have said, there's no reason to think the 2007 will be more reliable than the 2006. Realize that just because some RX-8s have problems it doesn't mean they all do. These days, unless a model is terribly unreliable most owners have no major problems, and often no problems at all, during the first year or two of ownership. My father has a 2005. Only problem he's had is that he flooded the engine once. You can read plenty about this issue on the forum. I'll have good reliability info on the RX-8 some time next near. Only five cars short of the minimum with the 2004, and the other years are getting there. Want real reliability data rather than just hearsay? Then please sign up. Vehicle reliability research |
I traded in my G35 for an 05 RX-8 last March. Haven't regretted it for a second. The 8 has _much_ better handling and a much better "sports car" feel due to the lighter weight. Good luck.
|
I have an '04 with 40,200 miles now. I have not had one moments problem with it. I have yet to find another car that I would give up my 8 for. I am a car salesman, so I get to drive a lot of cars
|
You will not notice a difference in the acceleration characteristics of the cars, at least I didn't.
Probably shouldn't be asking this in an 8 forum though... |
I had one of my neighbors who owns a G35 6mt drive my Rx-8. He was suprised how quick it was driving down a country road. Now I've driven a G35 auto and 350z 6mt, they are nice cars and I really had my heart set on the Z. But, the Z lacked trunk space and the G35 was too pricey. I wanted a sports car which the Z is but it lacked the practicality, the G35 was more of a luxury car but practical. The Rx-8 has the sports car theme down pack, plus its unique with the rotary engine.
|
I have driven them both, the 8 will lose in every race. I do like the way it feels though
|
The G35 engine is stronger than the 8, but the 8's handling is better. Also the 8's resale is far far worse than G35's.
Also the 8's fuel economy will be worse and the dealership will not be as quality as Infiniti's. |
