Traded my RX8 for...

2006 Evo. Put about $1600 into the new ride and got 350 all wheel hp. This thing does 13.4 1/4mi stock with 285hp. I should be in the high 11's low 12's. Prolly 12s cause i suck @ driving.

Not here to bash the 8. I must say that "The Little Things" thread hit it right on the money in regards to the 8 because the 8 has everything the evo 9 lacks. The interior on my new car blows. Not even a cruise control. I miss it. I liked the 8, but i just wanted cheaper power mods. Its ridiculous how huge and cheap the evo market is.

The thing that put me over the top is the fact that the re-sell value on the RX8 was dropping by huge amounts every time i looked on NADA/KBB. But im sure you dont want to hear that so i wont go there.

Well it was awesome being a part of the rotary world while it lasted. Peace out yalls!(no you cant have my stuff)

LiveBlues 09-07-2007 12:31 AM

Razz1 09-07-2007 12:44 AM

HA HA the resale value is even worse on a EVO

RotaryP7 09-07-2007 12:47 AM

lmao, no doubt.

actually go have a gander. the 05 evo base model could be had for 29k brand new. the base model 05 rx8 around 25k brand new. In 2 years the 8 will be 10k under, and the evo will be 5k under what you paid. The value just decreases from there at the same rate.

Assuming base model, excellent condition, with 27k miles. (Its what i had before i traded)

2005 Mazda Rx8 new in 2005 @ $25,000:
Trade in NOW: $16,200, a 9k deduction over 2 years. Click

2005 Lancer Evo 8 new in 2005 @ $29,000:
Trade in NOW: $24,850, a 5k deduction over 2 years. Click

Did i goof something up?

Yeah, you bought an econo-box on steroids... nah just kidding. I looked at the STI, 350z, M3, EVO and Q35 when I was shopping for a car. I decided on the 8 since it was the best value for me with what I was after. I didn't like the interior design on any of the other cars besides the Q35 & M3. I just didn't like the price tags on those 2. I would've purchased the M3 but my ex-wife wanted me to buy a house with the money I had saved up for it... hmm.... ex-wife got the house... wait a minute I lost... oh yeah back to the story, I went with the 8 or something.:ylsuper:

zamp 09-07-2007 05:42 AM

lol an econo-box on steroids

StewC625 09-07-2007 05:53 AM

Gotta say if the only way to work was three laps around Road America or some other world-class road course, then the EVO would be the only car I'd want. That thing is a race car - not sure why they sell it as a street car, but, it's a race car.

Hopefully everywhere you need to go is just around the bend on a killer curvy road or something and that you don't have to drive on an interstate.

A buddy of mine just bought a used EVO - 2 years old I think - and we've been stripping it for track fun - right now it's in getting track mods made like a cage, firebottle system, Sparco seat and belts, etc. installed, and having the airbags removed. I traded a weekend of time spent removing the entire interior other than the dash and console (although stripping everything unnecessary out of that also) for a split track day with him and his car. Oh my god, that thing is a total monster.

But not a great daily driver.

But I'm sure you know that ... have fun! Don't be a stranger ...

i almost traded mine for a black evo 9 mr.....in a way i regret not doing it, but in 6 months the rx8 will already be paid for. Nothing beats not having a car note

mdw1000 09-07-2007 09:31 AM

You should search the net for the top gear segment where Clarkson followed a Lambo with a pro driver around their track in an Evo, to see if he could keep up with him. Not only did he keep up with him, the pro spun the Lambo trying to stay in front of him. Pretty impressive.

I have a race car version in Forza2 that is a monster. I suck at driving games, but it is a blast to drive in the game.

Teckfall 09-07-2007 09:36 AM

I forget the exact name of that evo, but its not a regular one it had like 400 hp or something along those lines.

rglbegl 09-07-2007 09:46 AM

congratulations on the new car.
Personally, not a big fan of the lancer. Great for power mods, and easy for anybody to drive fast. Just too impersonal for me. No feedback. not really a drivers car, but an easy to drive car.

What's insurance run on that thing... I read this article not too far back. Evo is listed as the number #1 costliest vehicle to insure.

devildog1679 09-07-2007 12:47 PM

I was wondering the same thing.

Jedi54 09-07-2007 01:05 PM

I've never been a fan of the "econo box on steroids" but it is a great machine and fun to drive.
Congrats

Xdeedubbx: you're never allowed to get rid of your 8, especially now that you're famous.

delhi 09-07-2007 01:18 PM

STi is more ueaseable on a daily basis. The EVO is a very fast Tupperware.

Of course it is Top Gear, and it is Clarkson, and they've been quoted as saying Top Gear is entertainment first and foremost so I'm sure there's a bit of exaggeration in there somewhere. My money is on the pro driver spinning intentionally since that spin in the Lambo seemed really lazy. Who knows how much he was sandbagging, but Clarkson does like to use Top Gear to feed his ego.

That was a Euro version FQ400 Evo which is beefed up/modded with 400 hp not the standard US version. I could see that car putting up a good fight with a Lambo on track.

nt5k 09-07-2007 08:06 PM

I'm too much of a wimp to drive those things. (crash test ratings and such..)

LabDad 09-07-2007 11:06 PM

Congrats!

The Evo IX was my first choice but there is only one Mitsu dealership on Oahu and they suck balls. I even considering getting one from Cali and shipping it here but then I'd still have to put up with the local dealership for any warranty work (I do my own maintenance). I'm happy with my RX-8 but there's nothing like the satisfaction of dropping a few hundred bucks on a bolt on mod, turning a wrench for a few hours and seeing some real hp improvements.

Revolver 09-08-2007 12:58 AM

And did you see the other TG segment where they started both an Evo and some cheap little hatch in 5th gear and had a drag race - the Evo got thrashed until it climbed into it's torque sweet spot, hahaha.

RX8 is definitely an easier car to live with day to day and of course styling is subjective but I know what I'd rather look at.

But if you're keen on regular track work, that new Evo X is looking the goods. :)

You and Razz are clueless, the resale value of the Evo is among the best in the industry. Some sources even named it the best beating out the G35c, 911, S2k, and Mini Cooper.

And you're more clueless that the two guys above you... You're just asking to get added to my sig. aren't you? Yes, automags call it one of the best drivers cars, give it perfect scores for handling, steering feel, brake feel, and handling because it's not a drivers car and has no feedback

They're not for the faint of heart by any means. However, it depends on your priorities and and your tolerance for punishment. For me it's a great daily driver, but I'll be the first to admit it would be way down on the list for the average driver.

Did you ever find out if AMS is doing some of the work on your friend's car?
