Traded my RX-8 in on a S2000
I traded my 8 in today for a 2004 mint Honda S2000. I loved my 8 but due to no research, I made a terrible mistake purchasing the A/T version and haven't really lived it down since. Last night I got to drive a manual version for the first time and wow...what a difference. Anyone who says they can't feel a difference in the A/T to the manual is obviously on something. I always liked the S2000 and since riding in my uncles new miata this summer, it got my eyes open to how cool convertibles are.I got a great deal on one due to summer being over not to mention they gave me a great price for mine! I drove 260 miles to pick it up today and the drive back was awesome! At 6000 to 8000 rpm this car is just crazy. I'm happy with my purchase but will sadly miss my 8 as it too was a great car. I will keep posted to see if they bring out a new model of the 8 and will definatley consider it. Thanks to this board and it's members for all the good info!

Looking for a sporty convertible, you made a great choice. As it plagues me to say this about a honda:), I have always liked the S2000. Is in its own little class, adjacent to all the other Honda's. Good luck wit it!
|
Great choice if you dont need the extra doors.
|
s2000 is an awesome choice! I got the 8 because I needed a quasi real trunk but the s2k is one of the best sports cars out there!
|
Yep the S2000 in Auto X is one hell of a fun fast car.
|
If you're lookiing for fun to drive with a little more performance it's the better car compared to any RX-8. But I gotta ask, is this going to be your daily ride while living in PA.?
|
yea good choice, glad you didnt go with a 350
|
My buddy bought one with a comptech s/c a few months ago. Made me start thinking about a trade also. He is supposed to be getting around 310 - 320 hp to the crank.
|
Hey, that's great—there's simply nothing like a two-seat roadster with the top down! I wish I could have both cars.
|
If it weren't for my need for a usable back seat, a traditional sports car like that would be my first choice.
Good luck and good miles. |
My 8 or this car is not my daily driver. I guess I should have consider something like this the first time around. No regrets though...I still love the 8. I will be posting everything I took out of my 8 in the following week so check it out! There is definatley some good stuff!

:uhh: |
the 2004's are awesome.. just a little lower redline. But overall a better driver. Great choice dude!! They respond very well to N/A tuning as well.
|
Look how much positive feedback this guy gets on his S2000, as opposed to that other idiot who traded his in for that shitty Sentra... that guy hates life!!
|
the s2000 is a knockoff z3.
but i've always had a soft spot for the s2000 as well. i just couldnt deal with the lack of space. |
any sentra sucks no matter what.
The rx8 is the sexiest most beautiful woman you'll ever look at... s2000 is a hot chick with a boob job and tight ass, her teeth are straight and she'll give u a wild ride... the sentra is a fat chick in a tube top trying to play the part but cant. |

Though similar, another version: RX-8 is the 5'7 125 pound gourgeous brunette, evenly proportioned, wearing the black dress with heals, long legs and eyes that pearse your soul. The S2000 is the 5'2 105 pound blonde bombshell, hardbody with short shorts so tight you think she's wearing body paint (the one you cheat on your 8 with on vacation). The Sentra is that 5'5 150 pound, recently divorced brunette with cheap, faded, do it yourself blonde highlights preceeded by stretch marks near her hips, wearing no belt with a spare tire folding over her waistline. |

Good choice. The S2000 was on my shortlist when I was car shopping, but I ended up with the RX-8. I hope the S2000 works out.

I've driven a friend's S2000 and I was disapointed. It wasn't bad at all, just not great, either. I think the VTEC thing was overhyped. It felt like it had more useable power (idle to 6000 rpm), but the top end seemed weaker than my 8. My friend actually drove my 8 before I drove his S2K, and he mentioned the same thing. I didn't believe him till I drove his. The numbers indicate that they're within a gnat's ass of each other in 0-60 and 1/4 mile, anything from even to .2/.3 respectively, depending on the magazine.
I also think the car is artificially raw. The clutch is stiff for no reason (I smoked the clutch in a 6K clutch drop, WEAK). The shifter seemed stiff (I thought Honda's were known for their shifting?). The ride was unnecessarily stiff as the 8 actually handles better in real world conditions. MotorTrend summed it up nicely when they compared the 8, S2K and Z... "The Honda seems to match the Mazda, but we suspect its quicker steering ratio contributes to that illusion." I do have to say that I do like the quicker ratio, though. I can only imagine a quicker ratio on the 8. All in all they're both great cars, IMO, but I'm not a fan of a drop top. If it weren't for the hardtop costing $3K+, I would've gotten one. As far as out-of-the-box performance, niether has a meaningful advantage over the other. |

apparently... a nissan titan will give us a good run in the 1/4 mile.
thats slightly embarrassing imo. |

before this gets any worse though, i'm pretty curious how the 2.2l s2k compares to the 8. reading magazine articles doesn't do it for me. i've driven the 2.0l version, but not the newer one. is the engine as flexible (relatively) as the 8? or is it as peaky as the old one? if i could put the renesis in the s2000 chassis, id be a happy man. |
