trade in value
ok, I went to get a trade in value for my 40th AE rx8. Salesman quoted 16000. my car has 13500 miles and in showroom condition.
does this seem low? Your opinions please. |
kelly blue book shows like 19000 to 20000 but you know a dealer will never give the blue book value. (normally)
|
the dealer will NEVER give you anything close to the kelly blue book value. Just sell it yourself..
|
what's in yours? he's looking at blackbook and manheim. 16000 is about a grand behind average book with no add ons like nav etc.
That's a standard quote. you should be able to get another 2k out of it. And don't forget about the tax savings. well, in florida, you are only taxed on the difference between the new car and the trade before payoff. 18000 at 6 percent tax is 1080. So really you're getting 19k for it, which is pretty fair in this market. Even 17.5 or 18 is pretty strong too. 40th anniversary is 08, right? what are you trying to buy? |

At 16000, I'll opt to keep the car. I am looking at a tacoma crew cab 4x4 or a subaru forester. I need something to hold all my toys, mainly my mountain bike and road bike. I can't carry my bikes with the rx8. |
Saw a used 40th AE on sale at the dealer for $23k. Funny, u can get a new sport for around the same price.
I say keep the 8 and get a beater for ur mtn bikes. I used to have a van with a hitch mounted bike tray carrier. It was very convenient. Then I got the 8. Now I have to take both wheels off, put them in a wheel bag, and stuff the frame in the trunk and tie down the trunk lid. Hassle? Yes. But worth it. I can enjoy the 8 6 days a week and deal with the slight hassle once a week at most. It's a nice compromise. I enjoy the adrenaline rush in mtn biking but now I can also enjoy the rush in autoxing! |
^ keep the 8 and let the poor auto sales/market work in your favor with getting a good deal a second vehicle.

I just paid off my rx8 and currently have no car payments to make. I do not want to make anymore car payments. |
oh then there is seriously no reason for you to sell your 8.. haha
|
Mazdas have weak resale already and the RX-8s are even worse. Pity the people who want to unload their cars soon after buying and don't know this. Good for used buyers tho.
|
Now is not the time to sell a sports car. Hold onto your 8 until May/June and you will get a better price. Also, check out Carmax. They gave me KBB "good" trade-in value on my 8 last July.
Of course they sold it 3 months later for $5K more than they paid me so you may want to consider a private sale ... later in the spring. |
Private sale will always be more than trade-in from a dealer...Usually private sales take longer though if you want to get rid of it right away then dealer is the best option but it will take away from the funds...but 16 sounds about the right range with that low of miles on it
|
Keep the RX-8, install a trailer hitch (adds weight where you need it for SOLO II) and get a SMALL trailer for hauling bikes and SOLO wheels/tires.

does this seem low? Your opinions please. They wanted to negotiate down from 21K -- I just set my price and held there and they finally made the deal. Bob |

I would keep the 8.
I just looked at an 88' Jeep Cherokee 4x4 4.0L with 80,000 original miles, new water pump, alternator, starter, and clean interior for $1400.00. I am trying find a first vehicle for my son that we can also use to ride some trails. My father has had a few XJ's and the last one had 245,000 on it when it blew the motor. |
Here's my car.

Use the black book, much more accurate

Car is too new to sell or trade.
Cars are the worst investment. |

Cud also be because of this.....
Cash buy only. These cars are not selling and dealers are very willing to deal if they have them on the lots. Under invoice + $5000 off make this a pretty decent deal if you are into fun to drive and unique vehicles. Take new retail delivery from dealer stock by 2/01/10. See dealer for complete details. $5000 cash incentive (for Mazda customers only??) $500 under invoice is the going rate |
