tracks in florida?
 

i did a search on here, but i didn't turn up anything. does anyone know where i can get my car on a track in florida?

Sebring, and Homestead usually. Maybe moroso..

If you want to get on a track.. get a motorcycle :) as it's more difficult to get on a track with the car.

Also look for autocrosses, and do a search for NASA track days (sports car association, not aeronautics).

There are a few events at Gainesville, and there may be some track times through NASA at Roebling Road (southern Georgia).

Not sure about any other track-specific runs...

How is it more difficult? i'm new.

You have to wait for special events, there less of them during the year.. or take racing schools etc.. THe schools tend to be expensive..

You COULD do autocross as suggested, less expensive, but not the feel of a real track. Also, the cost of tires, brakes.. etc are more.

You can get a bike for about 3k.. be able to run every other weekend at Jennings (motorcycle only), and race weekends a(there are semi-open track days on race practice days)t Moroso and Homstead.. and most of the schools are about 250-300 a day..

it costs about 100-150 for a track day.. and you only need 2 tires instead of 4 ;)

There is the one time cost for leathers and boots.. but the helmet cost is the same.

There is a track in north Florida called Jennings. Not sure if it is strictly a bike track or if they have days for cars also.

It totally didn't occurr to me that he could have men't a drag strip.. I guess that could be considered a track too..

If that's the case, those are all over and cheap :) Bradenton has one too, and Moroso has a drag strip.. just about every one has test and tune nights.

Drag racing isn't that much fun... you end up going just for socializing with other people... most runs you can get at night is around 4~5 if you are lucky. I had a night where i got 2 runs the whole night (someone crashed into a wall... and refused to be air lifted out of the place because he didn't want to pay for it.)

I would be more interested in autocrossing... but i heard it's expensive... :(

Yeah, the social aspect of it is definitely what makes it fun. I would never go without friends. I've only been there two or three times, and probably did a total of 6 runs.

Autocrossing expensive?
 

I autocross approx once per month. I race in BS, which is B Stock or B Sedan (I forget what it stands for). Basically means NO MODS ALLOWED (no airboxes, coilovers, wide wheels, engine mods, etc).

So far, my costs have been:
1 helmet ($140)
1 set of magnetic numbers (made myself, $12)

That, and entry fees, which are approx $30 per event. If you don't have a helmet, most clubs have loaners. If you don't have numbers, most novices use masking tape, which the clubs usually also have handy.

At each event, we usually get 4-5 runs, each run of 40-65 seconds.

My OEM Bridgestone tires now have 25K miles on them, and don't seem to be any worse the wear for having 7-8 autocrosses on them. They are going to be replaced this month, because of AGE and mileage, not abuse.

(I did buy some better shocks (not coilovers, factory springs) and a better sway bar. Used. Total was approx $300. These were unnecessary, I just wanted them. And, possibly because my tires are worn out, I got beat by an RX8 that was completely box-stock (he is a better driver than me, so far).)

Not really very expensive for comraderie, fun, competition against comparable vehicles, and skills improvement. If you stay in the stock classes, you can expect to spend very little money, if you even spend at all, to have a great time.

^^ Yeah, autocross is cheap compared to getting on a real track. More availability too.

Looks like gainesville is the best one. but deland isn't too far.

Track events are way more fun, just a lot more expensive. You guys are lucky, tracks in FL are 100-200 vs 200-300 up here in the NE. They are both better than street races, so it's better than going fast on the street.

Yup. That happened to me once in my STi in NHIS turn 3 (tight 2nd gear right hander). I was following a race prepped (NO ABS) M3 into the braking zone and he locked the rears. I saw the smoke from the rear tires just as he turned in, so I expected him to come around. Fortunately, there was plenty of room to the outside of him, and he never entered my path.

I am going to the one on April 22nd event in Tavares (just north of orlando) with my friends.
Now i just need to borrow some helmets and buy some blue tapes. :)

I bet I am terrible at first, it's so hard to find twisties in florida...

It's 25 dollars for non-members so I don't think that' that bad.
