Torn up in hail storm

3 Attachment(s)
There were some wicked storms that rolled through the Dallas area today. My office got hammered by a hail storm and most of us had shattered windows and massive dents in our cars. I lost my back window, rear side window, moon roof, and windshield. I have massive dents all over the entire car...some are softball sized or larger. It's usually perfectly clean and polished. I just want to cry.

Any thoughts on how much this might cost to repair? The insurance company is so backlogged that it will take them a couple of days to come out to inspect the damage.

totaled
grab your stuff and whatever else youd like out/off it now.. that body repair work then repaint will make it a total bro im almost 100% sure

monchie 04-03-2012 10:58 PM

Sorry...its totally totaled...just kidding :D:

Anyway, not sure how much the damage will cost, but you just have to wait for the insurance company to see the damages. One more thing...is your car insured to hail damage?

Ricky SE3P 04-03-2012 11:04 PM

windows and sun/moon roof + body work (or even new panels if their deemed too damaged for repair) + trim replacement + repaint like factory > cars value
almost sure of it.

tcole6 04-03-2012 11:12 PM

Damn, that sucks. I have a friend in Dallas...he was lucky, the worst was south of him.

Yeah with the poor resale on these cars, it doesn't look good. Sorry to see that, wish you the best.

KellyAnn7 04-03-2012 11:51 PM

Thanks for the feedback. I have my fingers crossed that they won't total it. It was horrible to be stuck in the office, listening to the hail hit the building and knowing it was tearing up the cars outside.

Everyone's car was damage but my coworkers know how obsessive I am about my car so they kept coming over to make sure I was ok.

Heeroguy 04-04-2012 07:00 AM

i am an insurance appraiser and i put 99% total those are huge dents buddy. id start car shopping

LPCOKIE 04-04-2012 07:05 AM

my 8 got hit by hail in oklahoma city and farmers paid $10000 rather than total it. it took six months for the body shop to get to it.

sux to hear. i would hope its totaled because it will never be perfect. keep us posted and gl

tcole6 04-04-2012 07:36 AM

I don't know about that...it's just glass and body damage. It's not like it got hit by a semi or anything. The things that make the car what it is are fine.

200 is probably right about it not being the same. They will most likely have to replace the rear quarter, and the whole A pillar to C pillar part on the driver's side. If the other side is similar, it would be pretty much a full car re-skin. Very rarely does everything match up like factory when that happens unless a very good shop does it. Most insurance companies won't pay what i high end shop would charge to do it right.

Sorry OP, but that's gonna get totalled :(

Jethro Tull 04-04-2012 08:04 AM

Just be thankful that you survived that storm. I saw the video of semi trailers going airborn and getting tossed around like matchsticks.

It's just a car, remember that. Your life is what is most important.

Yeah, the other side is just as bad. And once the windows blew, the hail started tearing up the interior. The insurance adjuster can't make it out to see it for a week and a half but several of my coworkers have been told their cars are totaled. There were approximately 150 cars in our lot when this storm hit and they are all wrecked. Mine seems to be one of the worst though. We found out today that a tornado formed directly over our building which is why we got such massive hail dumped on us.

Texas right? I used to live in Dallas so I'm familiar with hail storms. Did you have hail insurance?

That's scary shit. Glad you're ok. Hail damage is nothing compared to what could have been.

Yes, I have hail insurance. But I found out today it's going to take them a week and a half to even come look at it. It's hard to plan out the next step when you don't know if they'll total it or try to repair it. That part sucks but many of my coworkers were only carrying liability insurance on their cars so they don't have any coverage for this type of thing. :(

KellyAnn7 04-04-2012 09:04 PM

Here's a video of what our parking lot looked like a couple of hours after the storm. My poor little car appears towards the beginning. I'm not sure if it's in the video or if it had already been towed but there was another RX-8 in the lot that was destroyed as well. :( They swept up two huge garbage cans' worth of glass this morning and wreckers were towing away cars all day.

tronicj 04-04-2012 10:39 PM

If they total it, I'm sure they will. Sorry. You should buy it back and then part it out. I will drive up some parts.

What city are you in? Glad you survived the storm. I was out in it, as I lost contact with one of my rigs and actually went out into the storm. Turns out my guy(s) was/were fine and all my equipment survived. Obviously everyone was not so luck as far as property damaged is concerned, but everybody survived. Sorry to hear about your car, I would just be sick if that were mine as well. At least your insured though and in the end it is just a thing it can be replaced. Luckily mine were in the garage and my GF's job has a parking garage so her and her co workers (the ones that parked in the garage) had no damage. Funny thing is I was out in my truck and not a scratch? Be patient, the insurance companies are over whelmed just as the body shops will be. If they don't total it, find a real good shop. Good luck.

I just put a new battery, coils, coolant sensor, plugs, and assorted maintenance into it a few months ago. We also did a compression test at the time and that was good. Mechanically, it's in great shape which is why this is just killing me.

slvrstreak 04-05-2012 06:55 AM

I agree with the others
it looks totaled
sorry girl :(

Here are the last shots before it was towed away. I'm still waiting for the insurance assessment but I'm no longer holding out hope for it.

LifeAfterRx8 04-05-2012 10:07 PM

I'm 100% sure they're going to total it... It looks like the interior may have to be replaced as well.

After you get an insurance assessment, let them know the maintenance items you've had done, tires, etc and they may reimburse you with a larger amount.

jasonrxeight 04-05-2012 10:26 PM

aww thats pretty sad.
