Too Good to be True?

Alright, so I’m trying to buy my first rx8. After months of looking I finally found a deal that I can't resist. It's a 2004 with 41K (original engine) on it for 9,000. The guy said that he was selling it so cheap because it was broken into and a bunch of stuff was stolen like than seats and speakers and stuff. He took it to the factory and had everything replaced with original factory stuff. He said it had a clean title so I guess he didn't report it, otherwise, I thought it would have a salvage title. I’m going to look at in on Friday and I’ve read all the stuff to ask and I will. I just know that the 2004 rx8 was a bit of a problem car and the warranty isn’t going to last much longer. Does it even sound like a good deal or am I going to buy something where I’m going to have to replace a bunch of stuff right after I buy it?

Ok, so I just got back from looking at it and some of my info was wrong due to me misunderstanding this guy's accent. The car does have a rebuilt title. He bought it from the insurance company for really cheap. He had it for a bit and then he said EVERYTHING on the inside was stolen. He DID go through his insurance to get everything replaced. He fully loaded it except for leather seats which I don't care about. As far as I know, the engine runs perfect but i am getting a compression test on Wednesday. I don't mind the salvage title but would you guys consider it a deal breaker?

good deal but sounds sketch. on to the next one bud

I'd get one with the engine core warranty still on it personally.

I don't think he took it to the factory......

If he had seats and speakers replaced, you can expect there to be problems soon with seats and speakers, that's just a fact'o'life.

The first target for a thief would be the stereo, check that the a/c and heater work, the controls are a part of the head unit, you may want to check that it has all it's airbags too - very easy to say everything was replaced, even the invisible stuffs......

Nah, the more you need to check, the further you should run from a theft recovery.

I think I would stay away. Who takes a car to the dealer and pays thousands to replace an interior with out contacting the insurance company? Who breaks in and steals seats for that matter?

get a compression test done . That is the more likely reason it is cheap.

If it pass the compression test, then i will say yes, it is a great deal. Anyway, good luck whatever you decide to make.

nope.

Sounds pretty shady to me.

He had all that stuff stolen (seats?!) and took it to the dealer and paid out of pocket to have that stuff replaced? Definitely ask why he didn't go though his insurance. It sounds a little weird and you should definitely ask him about it and gauge his response.

And as others mentioned; get the compression tested at a Mazda dealership.

That's what I was just thinking. That would mean a long trip back to Japan:shocking: !!!!

I would not buy that car at all. Having a hard time believing the "owner" was able to replace all those parts at the dealer without going through insurance. Are you kidding me!! Can't even imagine how much the seats and stereo would cost at the dealer if he had to pay out of pocket.

If insurance company is paying for it, then that's a different story.

$9k is probably more than the guy was offered on trade-in. You can pick up 06's with 60k miles for around $10k, with no issues.

Yeah I would look else where and buy private, I bet you can get a better deal. I bet this guy knows the tricks to make a car look and sound good for about 1,000 miles before all the problems rise to the surface. RUN A MILE AND DON'T LOOK BACK!

My s2000 seats were stolen. It's still a huge problem since they fit in civics and so easy to get in.

8k to replace by dealers. It can total most early s2000s now.
