today is a sad day

My 8 was hit today. My baby is smashed up from the front wheel to back wheel. :( :( :( And I can no longer open my door. I am also unable to close it all the way too. My suicide door was also pushed up into the body.

Thankfully nobody was hurt in the accident. The lady that hit me was about 80 years old too.

Today is a sad sad day.

That sucks! I'm sorry to hear about your problems. Will it be totaled?

I will find out tomorrow. If the frame is bent then yes. It is drivable but it will never be the same as it was 3 hours ago. I am hoping it is so I can get a new 8 but I will miss the good times I had with it.

Aoshi Shinomori 08-30-2005 09:06 PM

Oh man, sorry to hear that! I hope everything works out getting it fixed/getting a new one as I am not sure what the insuranc company will do. I am happy to hear everyone is safe but I'm sure you're not thrilled right now. Best of luck with your 8 :)

sorry to hear man. They need to keep old ladies off the streets. It doesn't look like the car would be totalled though. Good luck!!!!

The part that you can't see in the pics is where the body buckled under the door

Sorry about that. An old lady took me out once, too.

Did the side curtain deploy?

Aratinga 08-30-2005 11:09 PM

So sorry to see your poor car like that! I'm doubting it will be totalled, though. Let's hope the little ol' lady (she wasn't from Pasadena, was she?) has good insurance.

actually no it didn't and I shall have a word with Mazda about that. The hit was hard enough to bend and possibly twist the body but not hard enough to deploy the airbag. My neighbor thinks $7,000 to $10,000 worth of damage he hasn't seen the body yet.

Thankfully she wasn't from Pasadena. She was from Culver City. AAA insurance is who she carries. I haven't heard any negative chatter on the streets about them.

Ironically I saw another 8 on the way home from work that was pulled over by a cop.

sad indeed

even the strakes got it

BlueRenesis82 08-31-2005 08:59 AM

yep, old people cant drive. Was she driving a Buick or a Caddy?

icyur2 08-31-2005 09:41 AM

Ya know...I wish the Fed push for a minimum age requirements for the elderly. It is a part of life. We get old, we lose vision, muscle coordination, etc. How many people have to die or be a victim to before they get serious on this @#$?? I'm just glad you weren't hurt!! Can you imagine if she hit you HARDER and went through the door frame??? Stupid states out there too dang liberal to wake up and get real on elderly drivers....I know Japan has a law on that stuff..maybe other nations too..

Had my 1990 Nissan 240SX driver's door caved in, when a stupid old man pull his extended van from a PARKING lot, and totally forgot that my washed, waxed, and bright RED car was next to his. Suffice to say, the punk had the guts to look around to see if anyone noticed, then tried to pull out to flee the scene. If I was smarter, I would of taken down his license plate and called the cops..but..I jumped over the counter, and ran out the door to confront the old geezer..PARKED!!! How the hell can you hit a PARKED car???

This thing pisses me off... I know several young healthy people who were killed or permanently disabled because of some old fart... Why can't they give mandatory annualy health and driving tests to everyone over 60?

Is it because most of the voting, wealthy and influential population consists of these geezers? How many innocent people have to be killed or injured before anything will be done about it? This country is so screwed up...

i don't disagree with you, but will say for as many bad old drivers, there are as many bad young ones too. And Drunk ones. bad drivers come in all shapes and forms, so its hard to regulate without regulating everybody. But i see your point totally-

In this case, im sorry to see that 8 banged up. best of luck to Royal in getting it fixed-keep us posted on the side curtain thingy.

dwynne 08-31-2005 02:33 PM

Sorry for your wreck, but glad you are OK.

They really need to start re-testing drivers when they get to be a certain age, and then re-test them every few years. Sure the old folks will complain "If I fail, how will I get around?". Gee, if you fail you don't need to be on the road at all! I was tested for my motorcycle license the day I turned 14 and car license the day I turned 16. At one time they checked your eyesight when you renewed your license, now they don't even bother with that. Just pay the fee, smile for the picture, and you are good for another 5 years. So as long as I live and can drag my carcass to the DMV, I can keep driving.

It is a joke. Re-test me, if I fail then I don't deserve to be on the road.

An update on my car and the airbags

It took the bodyshop 4 weeks just to get the parts. she should be ready next week I can't wait. I miss my car.

The side curtain airbnags didn't deploy because I wasn't hit hard enough to deploy them.

I miss my car.

Gambit 09-14-2005 12:55 PM

4 WEEKS!!!! That's absurd!

I feel ur pain

Shinka-Rick 09-14-2005 04:09 PM

Sorry about your wreck man. I can totally relate.
An old guy pulled in front of my Shinka when I had around 2000 miles on it.
Luckily, the only damage was the front nose.
It got fixed as good as new, but I had to stay involved in the process.
Try not to let them blend the new paint into the panels that were not damaged. That is a pretty standard process when they don't want to take the time to match the color exactly.
I refused to allow any blending on my Shinka. I had this arranged with the supervisor of the body shop when I got the estimate.
If the body shop knows that you are going to be a pain in their butts if the job is not done right, they will probably do their best to get it right the first time!!

Good luck.

Overport 09-14-2005 05:12 PM

Did you really have to show us pics?!!! OUCH.

Sorry to hear about your accident. Hope your alright.

I have to correct myself it was only 2 1/2 weeks not 4 weeks. I actually thought it was 5 weeks that I was without my car.

The good news nothing was repaired everything was just replaced for a total of $7,500. I just got it back and I am as happy as the day I bought it. amazingly they got an orange peel look to parts of the paint but not all. So it looks a little out of place to me at least but I am very satisfied with the treatment I got from this Auto Body shop.
