Tire wear.
Hi. I have 12,000 miles on my '05. Tires are already at the wear bars. I don't drive this car hard by any means. Do you guys typically get this poor mileage out of tires? I have the Bridgestone Potenzas. I had my Mustang for 12 years and generally got 18-20 thousand miles out of a set of tires. That's an extra year the way I drive. Thanks.

the bridgestones suck...go to tirerack and look for Avons.

tires are not made equal. softer compounds will wear quickly.
the wear rating on the stock tires are something like 80 or 120. My current set are 380 ... |
maybe an aggressive alignment

And remember, performance tires will die faster than All season thats for sure. My Bridgestone have 400 threadwear rating. I beat the crap out of it everyday, its almost like 8K miles no signs of wear, geeze. |
The OEM Bridgestones wear very quickly. Check Tire Forum for recommendations and Tirerack.com.

My car wears tires.

I have 33,000 mostly highway miles on my OEM Bridgestones. I only just now getting to the wear bars. My main complaint is that the tires are noisy.

I weared the rears down in 16k miles. Make sure your car is aligned as this will kill your tire wear. Also, the treadwear on the OEM Potenzas is 140.

im glad you posted this, I was thinking about getting a new set... maybe toyo or I might get mich. all season tires... I don't really like the potenzas....any other advice would be appreciated

Bridgestone Potenza RE050a Pole Positions

Depends on your climate. Snow or rain, you need to decide if you want performance or durability.

Got 34,000 miles on my "shoes" - Pirelli PZero-Nero M+S still going strong ...

Tire wear depends heavily on how you drive your car. My 8 has the stock Potenzas and at 12k miles, they almost look like new. I do hang a few corners every now and then, but not every weekend. At the rate I'm going, my Potenzas should last another 20k+ miles. 1.3L |

1.3L Thanks for everyone's thoughts. I'm leaning towards the Potenza 960AS Pole Position. All weather seems to make more sense to me here in WV. We get some snow. Plus the better wear. |
I've been reading this thread with great interest. I have just under 15,000 miles on my OEM Potenza tires, and the tread wear is very noticeable. Wear bars are showing and my local Mazda dealership said the two front tires have less than 3/32 on them. That's bad, 'cause I don't drive hard. I've been reading all the threads on tires and looking at tirerack.com for recommendations on possible replacements. I think, since I live in SE Michigan and do get below freezing weather and some snow, that I am going to get AS tires this Fall. Am probably going to get Potenza RE960 Pole Position AS -- unless between now and this Fall someone shows me something better (or cheaper). Appreciate everyone's comments and advise -- and especially would like to know where I can get an unbelievable deal on tires, esp the Potenza RE960 AS. Thanx.

At 34K miles they are getting noisy, have about 5/16" tread left (1/8 above the wear bars). I intend to drive them through mid summer then put new ones on, by taking a pilgrimmage to TireRack in South Bend for them. I paid $150 each for them. Think I might switch to the Avon AS tires for the next round - a little less expensive (about $140 each) and great ratings. Although the Pirelli's have a killer look to them. FYI, I did a "plus zero" upgrade - up two sizes in section width, down one size in aspect: 245/40-18 vs 225/45-18 stock size. Fatter look = much sharper look. |
