Tire shop fail...
I need to vent...
So I ordered my wheels couple of months ago from SSR. And those ever ordered these wheels or ordered SSR in general knows you have to wait... LIKE super WAIT just to get your wheels in. I hate waiting... But I really want these wheels and good thing I have stockers to run for a while. http://www.ssr-wheels.com/wheels/sp3_181920.asp these wheels btw... I get my wheels just last week. I take them to a tire shop to get my stuff mounted. All is well... I even purchased center caps. I guess this newbie they hired just don't know what he's doing. They have my wheel on that machine that puts the tires on. This guy puts my wheel up there then out of nowhere... BAM wheel slids off and falls face flat to the ground. I see it happening right in front of me. I learned from many people that you should always keep a close eye when a shop doesnt something to your car or stuff. There's a are dents on the wheel along with few.. or should I say many scratches on the lip. I don't know what to say whether to cry or explode in anger. Manager comes out looks at what happen... looks back to me. Looks back at the wheel... to me again... then to the worker. That dude was speechless. He comes to me apologizing. Clearly it's their fault... or his employee's fault. He then tries to work with me. They will get either the wheels fixed or get me a new one. There is no way I'll get that fixed it's not the same. After moment of talking they decided to order me a new one. Which MEANS another waiting. It took about more than 3 months to get my wheels in... and it seems like it'll take another 3 or more months. :cussing::cussing::cussing: They also offered me free on the house mounting and balancing when it comes in along with alignment. Since they found out it'll take that long. So now what the hell do I do ... I was expecting these wheels and I couldn't wait to get them on. Obviously I have to wait now. But the rest of the wheels are just mocking me. bahh... life sucks sometimes... I need to sleep through it and wake up 3months from now. |
it doesn't seem like the wheel falling off of a mounting machine would 'break' the wheel to the point of no return...if it does I'd be hesitant to put the weight of a car on it. Most places that fix wheels work magic.
|
It had some bents on the lip along with chips and lots of scratches actually... sorry I was in a hurry to type that rant/vent. But it was basically messed up. I have no idea how the heck this guy drops my wheels.
|
Well like I said, any wheel repair shop that is worth a damn can resurface wheels well and should be able to get the wheel looking like new...unless you have some crazy massive damage. Pics?
|
No pics at the moment.. the damage wheel is @ the tire shop. I had my iphone with me and I didn't even take pic. I guess I was just too distracted and pissed at that time... But i'll try to go back and take some.

dude- welcome to life.
shit happens. |
I'm not saying he shouldn't have them buy him a new rim by any means. I'm just saying that if he really can't wait the 3 months to get another rim, it's a good alternative.
|
you'll appreciate the rims that much more. really good of you to not flip out, rarely accomplishes anything other than proving your immaturity. all those things they offered to you are basically free for them, may want to consider 3yrs worth of alignments balancing rotations etc.
|
at least they owned up for their screw up.....at least the mounting is free now and the alignment so at the end you saved money :)
|
Well... If i was not watching them. They would've probably lied to me and said many BS stuff. Like I was @ their shop watching them do the wheels. So yes let this be a lesson.
I wonder what they did to the dude that dropped my wheel... He seems to be between 19-23 years of age. |

shit happens. But yeah, it sucks that you have more waiting ahead of you. Seems the shop is doing the best they can to make it right for you, though. Don't take that for granted, as there are way too many businesses that wouldn't do the same. |

shit happens. Everyone has some issue when it comes to other people working on their stuff Seems like your taking the right step in the situation. Just remember to stay in control of the situation and dont let the tire shop try any slick shit. Remember your in the driver seat for this one. Good Luck |

I'm glad the shop is replacing the wheel but at least they owned up to it and are taking care of you. Yea waiting sucks, but at least you know they are an honest place. |
that blows dude :icon_no2:
|
The waiting sucks, but the damaged wheel will be replaced, and services done for free. I'm sure the tire tech did not do it on purpose (or did he? ;)), and everyone makes mistakes. Either way, it sucks, but there are more serious problems in the world than a scratched wheel! Also, good job on not losing your cool, I would have been mad too!
Good luck with it all. Michael |

As someone who's a mechanic and has also been around many shops over the years, I think you are getting off pretty lucky. ALL of the tire stores around here have big signs up saying "not responsible for damage to mag/custom wheels" or similar. Because everybody and their dog has custom wheels on their 93 accords, the tire shops hate dealing with the big wheels and low profile tires, and I guess they've damaged their fair share.
There is only one local place I trust. That is because the local wheel shop gets all their tires mounted and balanced there, and this wheel shop sells 10-50 sets of wheels per week ranging from 16" racing wheels to 26" chrome SUV wheels. And yes, even this shop has put a few nicks in the chrome of my 24's on my Denali while balancing and changing tires. But I can't bitch too much, because there is no one else within 100 miles who could do any better. |
i saw the guy struggling to mount my 45 series tires on my volks, i walked into the shop and helped him mount the tire on the machine, getting tires over the TPMS is a PITA

Lucky they are taking care of you!!! I'll shop around tire shops until I can find someone confident enough to guarantee no real scratches or someplace that is fairly high priced but absolutely reputable to mount my tires. |

there is a difference between damaging while trying to put the tire on and dropping the thing on the floor though. |
get the wheel when it comes in ... decline all further offers, incentives, etc and find a better installer.
get the wheel and run, run very fast. |
