Three Simple Questions...
1. What is the deal with the metal rotor accent around the headrest of the front seats? It seems like this will be extremely uncomfortable and also a danger during an accident.
2. Do the rear seats fold down (independent of each other maybe, rear pass-through)? 3. Will there be no spare, but a spare is available as an option (spare tire kit, $395)? It's my take that there is a tire repair kit standard with the roadside assistance for the length of the warranty. |

(Just pay attention to photos with driver) 2. NO, rear pass through only 3. Standard tire repair kit. Spare is an option in the US. |

It's designed so that RX-8 owners can easily identify each other by the rotor imprint on the back of their heads And I thought it was to identify on the forehead those back seat passengers who choose not to wear a seatbelt. |
I might have to stop sticking up for you Lensman |
Quote from a now already old movie: "Dangerous, yessss, I am dangerous, LENS---MAAAN" (I am sorry, I only saw this one in German, so I might be wrong with the quote...).
I really love your humor, Lensman. "He strikes again" :) |

ONCE... man... i just can't like those silly, romanticized (unrealistic) war movies... i don't think guns or explosions are especially cool, and yes, i harbour a distaste for pretty-boy McGuire... *frustrated to the point of tears* anyways Rotormotor, you shut uuup!! ... AHAHAHAHA... ;) never mind, i shoulda got bit in the ass for that one: i deserve it... but yeah, i never really liked Top Gun that much... no excuse though. ahahaha... :D |
Wuteva dude. Top Gun is a classic, and I've only got 5 years on you so don't make me sound toooo old..... :D
|
a half decade isn't a big deal?? dude, that makes you as old as most of the chicks i date ;)
and besides, that puts Top Gun right in the middle of your teen-pop culture: my Buffy to your Top Gun, see?? so :p |
This thread is a great example of how bad we are about getting off topic.:) It is not a big deal here though, because all the questions were already answered.
|
A. i like Buffy and i am older than both of you. now if they would just stop putting the re-runs in between the last few episodes i would be much happier.
B. that makes rotormotor as old as the chicks i'd like to date, only i'm married and my wife won't let me;) C. i seem to be contributing to the taking the thread off topic problem. i should stop that :D |
bah... season seven Buffy is just "trying too hard"... Joss' best work of late has all been in Angel... ;)

oh you know it. never miss an angel

Originally posted by wakeech it's not quite old enough (or bad enough) to get enough camp points with me yet... Let's face it, the 80s as a whole were a bit camp really. |

It's my take that there is a tire repair kit standard with the roadside assistance for the length of the warranty. back on topic. i was confused by this one. what was the question? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm asking if there is a spare standard? If not, is there any type of tire repair kit standard? Also, if there is no spare standard, what is the "spare tire kit" include (fix-a-flat or a rubber donut)? |

This is how it goes in the original version: [LOCKER ROOM, after the First Flying Class at Top Gun] ICEMAN: "You are everyone's problem, that's because everytime you go up to the sky, you are UNSAFE." MAVERICK: "THAT'S RIGHT ! ICE......man, I am dangerous."(grin) |
Originally posted by lurcher Oh c'mon, Top Gun is the very pinnacle of 80s camp. The clothes... the music... aggressive male bonding... mirrored shades... butch nicknames... oh la la! Romantic side plot to keep the ladies happy but those leather-clad flyboys weren't fooling anybody. Let's face it, the 80s as a whole were a bit camp really. |

I am so sorry, but I must go back (off-topic I mean)...: 19? Reminds me also: Nineteen! Na-na-na-na-nain-tiiiiiiin. (Paul Hartcastle that was). Topgun led so many people their way to the military (as me as well), hey man, COLD WAR was still hot then....
Some years later I spend one night on Miramar Naval Air Station, watta feeling! Took some (secret) shots, nearly MP got me for that  At 11 p.m. (or 23hundred as I would rather call it) :)one roaring Tomcat into the air. RotorMotor, I love San Diego, but the timing was not so good then: When the police changed their motto from "Protect and serve" to "We treat you like King (Rodney)". Saw burning L.A. when sitting in the hotel room in -- San Diego. And for the wrong quote: As I said, I saw the movie only in German (I have the DVD now and saw it once in -- French, THAT was cool :) ) O.k., now a little back to the topic: The seats or cool and I don't think it's a danger. Remember my of MX-3 seats anyhow. What against the lacking spare tire? If I really have trouble I have my motor club assisting me or so... Good to save weight and space! Folding seats would be good: I liked them in my MX-3's. But as you have only conventional trunk they would be only of little use, so I think they took more concern of the design of te seats than of a folding mechanism.... You could pack something on your roof into some skibox if you really need this?! Sadly, I could not yet sit in one. We went to Leipzig to AMI Automobil Messe Internatinal only to see the RX-8 but it was only "table dancing" (and the other one in the hotel lobby). I think Germany is not a good market at the moment and even me doesn't order one in advance before I test drive one :( (Anyhow "only" interested in the standard 192HP version and still concerned about fuel consumption! :( Cheers, Norberto (Maverikk) ;) |

damn......... you were in Miramar ??!! I always wanted to go there. Lucky dog.
Alrite, movie trivia time: 10 pts for the first person who can name the song Maverick and Goose sang at the bar ! |
You've lost that lovin feelin'
C'mon dude, that was an easy one.... Unfortunately Miramar is no longer NAS Miramar. It's operated by the Marines now and Top Gun has moved to Colorado.... I used to live a stones throw from Miramar when I was a kid (only about 15 minutes away now), but man, I still have AWESOME memories of sitting on the roof of our old house watching the air shows. The Blue Angels would literally pass 200 feet over head right over the house. Talk about making you want to live the movie.... |
Yesssss, Smoker, was in Miramar then (1992). Now the Navy boys "lost that feeling...." I'm afraid. And what I did not mention: The pic was taken by myself, 'course. :D
RotorMotor, I can only imagine that.... dreeeemin' of that... Some time ago I did the next thing to flying -- riding a bike (BMW K1100). Goes like a turbine...... Only flying is nicer. |
Now really back to topic: If THIS is the spare tire option I really really go without this -- option!
 |
Answers from Mazda
Here is a response I got from Mazda from emailing them at rx8orders@mazdausa.com.
A spare tire is not standard. It will be an option to purchase from the dealership. In it's place is a IMS Emergency Flat Tire Repair Kit which will allow you repair a flat. Additionally, you will have Roadside Assistance for the entire term of your warranty, which is 4 years or 50,000 miles whichever comes first. Automatic climate control is not available on the RX-8. The 6-disc CD changer is a stand alone option is not part of any packages. The rear seat has a pass-through. The moon roof both tilts and slides open. Lastly, the xenon headlamps are for the low beam lamp, not the high beams. |
Was checking out the back seats at revitup and i think 2 bolts hold each rear seat back in. I plan on removing those and letting the backs "rest" in place.
My 7'-2" surfboard will fit perfectly with the front seat forward! norats |

Not being big on safety, I would have never though of that, thanks. Maybe, I'll hinge from the bottom somehow....
