If you autocross, the 8 will be better. Either way, avoid a 2004 RX-8.

Wasn't this just on another post? I don't miss my neuspeed 1.8T for a second...not a nanosecond. And excuse me while I cough when I see any kind of comparison of a prev. gen Golf vs. an 8.
...AND I still forever remain unable to understand someone who would base a purchase decision on car x being .3 seconds faster with 3mph higher traps. ...dickless wonders...why do I still come here... |

Like I said if my GTI was a normal golf it would have been gone a while ago. People base a purchase on what they like or whatever fits their needs. Three tenths of a second isnt much but honestly as it sits now my car should be capable of running a high 13 I just havent gotten it there yet. Some people buy cars because their fast, some because they save gas whatever... Different strokes for different folks.

I traded in my 2007 GTI with DSG for a 2007 RX8 when the $3500 rebate was in effect.. I put 25k on the GTI n about 15 months. I loved the DSG, but then started to miss rowing the gears. After driving the RX8 I wasn't totally convinced. But I made the plunge due to the rebate and high trade-in I received.
The gearbox, handling, looks, and the 9k redline lured me over. Yes, I do miss the torque, but the GTI doesn't have the feel of the RX8, plus I also missed RWD. You won't regret the RX8 in my opinion. I look forward to driving it more than I did my GTI. |

But the one thing I cant seem to get past is the lack of power. Granted the car makes about as much HP as my modded GTi does to the wheels but my GTi is probably making almost 100 more tq.
That's easy. Get the RX-8 now, and when you get bored, drop 5k and turbocharge it. You'll make +110 torque to the wheels, and +120 horse power to the wheels easily with the 3071R turbo. And if you want to go higher than 9 psi, the gains will increase significantly. |
