THESE drivers always give me dirty looks

Some observations after 6 months of ownership- Is it me or do the owners of some certain cars look at me when I'm in my RX8 like I'm trailer park trash. For me it's every grey-haired middle aged guy with a mid-life crisis ( hey, that's me ) in their dime-a-dozen mustangcamarochargervet. Hey we all had choices, this was mine, you have yours. Like my mama said- Son, you made your bed now lay in it. Let's hear your stories. Porsche drivers- they never glance. Kinda in a world of their own I guess. TGIF

Javii 05-04-2012 02:49 PM

They're probably looking surprised at the fact that it's not another mustangcamarochargervet like they're accustomed to seeing every 30 seconds.

HiFlite999 05-04-2012 03:37 PM

People hate to see other people having more fun than they are!

The thing is that they probably wanted to get it but didn't feel they could pull it off so they are just jealous ignore them!

Here, here. Those things are everywhere around here, like maggots under a rock.

zitalianrotor07 05-04-2012 04:14 PM

proud owner of an 04 rx8, i'm 22 and i gotta say that i get those looks all the time, my car LOVES high RPM...DEAL with it!! I got nothing special on the car, no loud exhaust, no tint...yet...i really think it is a jealousy thing!

Lancifer 05-04-2012 05:00 PM

DAMN PRIUS DRIVERS!! These are the only ones who ever flip me off. The ones that do are rather obvious... they are the ones in the fast lane going the absolute speed limit. They should be getting a ticket for effecting flow of traffic.

Usually I pull around, downshift, zoom way ahead then cross back over. Then out of nowhere... you can set your watch by it, they zoom up to me, flip me off then try to speed ahead. Keyword, try.

Or the Prius drivers that are cruising along and look at you like you are natures worst enemy. As if the cost of energy just to make those ugly pieces of rolling garbage wasn't huge in itself.

Oh yeah and muscle car owners who get the 6cyl version and are pissed at everyone else because of their lack of funds/knowledge of what they were buying.

RadRedR3 05-04-2012 05:32 PM

Some of you guys crack me up. Be car enthusiasts. Don't be fanboys of anything.

Jealousy? Hate? Envy? Lmao. Maybe whoever is looking just likes the car? Ever Consider that? Jeeze, they just looked at your car. Hell, like I always say about my own cars, it's just a _________. Mazda in this case. Lol. They might've been looking to see what the price of gas is on the sign past you. Lol

Anyway, you young guys, like I said earlier. Try to appreciate what ever car has to offer if you're actually a car enthusiast. And if youre just a fanboy, bandwaggoner... That's ok too. But get over yourself. If I'm checking out your Rex on the street from my 600rwhp Shelby GT500 "rustang" it's because I like ALL sports cars. If I'm not allowed to admire from just a ford I'll go home and get my R3. ;)

Remember, 9000 Rpm's are fun, but so is nearly 600lb/ft of torque. Enjoy every car for what it has to offer. There are a LOT of fun rides you'll miss out on if you don't.

Words of wisdom from,
The old guy

In southern california its BMW drivers that give you a hard time. Yes Porsche drivers are generally oblivious, unless its an older 911SC then a race may be on.

It's the revs man: Their all thinking that your shifting late

HiFlite999 05-04-2012 08:01 PM

On the other hand, kids *love* our 8's! Up close, the little ones get their grubby hands all over it. Further away, noses get pushed against the windows of their minivan cages, and hands come out school bus windows to wave.

Kids recognize fun, adults let egos get in the way.

Lancifer 05-04-2012 08:12 PM

Hardly a youngen here, but thanks for the compliment. My example is pretty clear, these are clear precise actions, such as flipping me off, exhibited by folks driving a specific vehicle towards me. The experiences have basically culminated into my being able to peg which ones are going to do it and which ones are not. Of course trash talking the cars the douchebags drive is cathartic and serves to add a bit of bite to an otherwise dull story while at the same time keeping with the subject. No shade... :-)

User24 05-04-2012 08:45 PM

It is probably the ricer look people give you. Is your rx8 basically stock look, or does it have an x-men spoiler and stickers all over?

ShellDude 05-04-2012 08:56 PM

Ya know, i climbed out of my 8 today after driving home from work, took a back glance at it, got all warm inside and smiled ear to ear.

4 years and 50,000 miles and it is still an amazing ride. I seldom pay attention to other drivers beyond making sure they're not about to run into me.

MariesRX8 05-04-2012 09:26 PM

I've found it mostly just confuses and intrigues people, as it's become rather rare again like it was in the first few years. I stopped yesterday in the middle of an apartment complex parking lot to unload some stuff (amazing how much you can cram into the back seats), and the people sitting outside came over to ask what it was, "look at how she opens the rear doors!" and all that, lol.

Otherwise, I haven't noticed any nasty attitude really, just the opposite really. An M3 (older model) driver even walked over last week to say "nice car" and ask about it, saying he almost bought one and loves them too.

Vlaze 05-04-2012 09:34 PM

Women drivers also get a much different response than men do so keep that in mind ;)

RX8Soldier 05-04-2012 09:40 PM

Let them look.
The 8 is rare where I'm from, so the looks are either good or bad. Usually, the question is "nice car! What is it?" lol

SIDE NOTE: Maries, you say "she". Are you female? I've had more than one drink tonight, so forgive my inquiries, please :)

terrypk1 05-05-2012 01:00 AM

I just got one of those looks at a stop light...and the person driving the car next to mine has no idea what a rotary is. So I am not surprised that sometimes we get looks, because people don't know anything about the RX8 (thanks to mazda's crappy advertisement).

and so..he says "you got a V6" "is that a front wheel drive"

OddEclipse 05-05-2012 05:59 AM

With all the old people driving around here... I don't worry about looking to see who's looking at my car. I'm just trying get 'er home in one piece. :suspect:

Totally. Spot on.

I get compliments on my car, its an eye catcher, and some are just jealous...enough said.

2 days ago was the proudest I ever was to drive my 8. I was going down a road when a pizza delivery guy was pulling out and saw the 8. he rolled down his window and put on a huge smile while waving his hands and giving the thumbs up. Felt awesome

Razz1 05-05-2012 10:58 PM

What the HELL is that old fart doing driving that car?

That's why they Look.

Mu ha ha...

NotAPreppie 05-06-2012 09:57 AM

I don't know about you but any time a lot of strangers give me dirty looks it because of me, not my car.

Quit rev'ing on them at stoplights. :p:

LOL, yea that kinda thing (people yelling "nice car!" at stoplights, passengers leaning out their windows with thumbs up, etc.) happened to me too during the first year (2004) of ownership, back when it was the Neat New Thing for enthusiasts.

Great to hear it's still happening!
