Sold the 8 the other day. Got a TSX. Love it, loved dealing with the acura people they were the best dealing with any dealership ever. Thanks for all the great info, still be around here just cause I like this place. Funny thing though, first of all the dealership I am at doesn't keep used cars so they sell them to other dealerships. A lil background on mine, I got it in jul-aug of 03 it had every option and was in better then perfect shape, with only 26k on it. It still smelt like new that is how good the upkeep was. Now when they pulled the numbers whatever it was booking out at like 23-24k. Then they called the other dealerships (including the other mazda dealerships) they said they didn't want it, and that they have no use for the RX-8 on their lots, and they weren't even going to order more in the future, cause they couldn't give them away. unless a customer request one. This was at all the mazda dealerships here. So then they came back to me with an offer of 14k, and said this was the best they were getting from anyone and the guy seemed really stressed out and amazed, cause when I first walked in and told them that I was trading in the 8 he saw it and said 22.5k no problem. I obviously said hell no and left. Well a day later they called and said they had a guy coming by that wanted to make me an offer on the car through the dealership. (some owners freind or some shit) but in the end I got 20k I owed 11200 on it, and got the car I wanted for the price I wanted. I was and still am just amazed at the market for our car. When a guy with a 03 base and beat up 350Z can walk in and get 17-19k with out any hassle. Is it cause of gas prices? I mean when the mazda dealerships say they aren't even going to order anymore, and I drove by one and sure enough there wasn't one 8 out there. Just my lil expeirence.

I'm satisfied with mine, but it sounds like Mazda's ploy to add expensive appearance upgrades while refusing to address the engine issues is backfiring. It doesn't really matter if there are buyers out there if the dealers don't order any.

That's interesting. I'm kind of curious of how the resale/market value of this car will play out in the next few years...

It's true. When I go to Cars.Com and search Albuquerque zip codes only 1 RX-8 shows up for $25K. In the DC area, dozens show up - mostly being sold by dealers. Maybe Albuquerquians(?) just plain hate the RX-8. On the other hand, NOT A SINGLE TSX shows up - so they must hate that even more!

I got the TSX for 28500. Fully loaded too.

Engine issues?! What engine issues?? Guess I'm lucky and got one of the good ones—I couldn't be more pleased.

Why did you sell your 8?

not bad for a fully loaded TSX, I'm still car shopping w/ my fiance and we've been looking at the same car as well for her, so hopefully one of these dealerships in WA will try to make a deal w/ us.

I can't believe someone paid 20k for an 04 Rx8.

Edmunds.Com shows delivered invoice=$26,051 and average for Albuquerque=$27,921. MSRP shows as $28,505 including destination. Doesn't show any options for a TSX. Based on that, I don't see anything extraordinary about $28,500

Well I am sure after the numbers and if they moved some on the TSX they put it toward the 8 to make the numbers look better. I don't care how they did it all I cared about was how much the TSX was then take what they told me they were giving me for the 8 then minus what I owed and the rest was there for the TSX so it worked out fine for me.

The low HP and low torque that everyone complains about, and the gas mileage that is worse than a V8. Not to mention the overheating in warmer climates, starting and flooding issues. I haven't experienced any of those other than the mileage and hard starting, but from what I have read in other forums and message boards, the automobile consumer community seems to be well informed of all those issues.

I'm not surprised to hear this. The RX-8 is a great car and I really like it but the low fuel mileage combined with Mazda's inability to fix the cars problems (engine management programming resulting in lose of HP, lose of MPG) has put this car in a very bad position. Each year the car has lost HP on paper and this has to set poorly with people looking for a sports car. Now mix that with major car magazines reporting long term RX-8 getting 13 to 17 mpg combined and you have a situation for sinking sales.

Also why get a TSX when you could have had a Legacy GT which will eat the TSX for lunch.

lol well I didn't get a TSX to race. I got it cause it is extremely reliable (honda is like no other) and being an Acura it doesn't take huge depriciation hits every year like most cars, and the interior quality is amazing. The absolute only thing that even bugs just the slightest is that it is FWD and I have grown acustom to RWD. I gotta say it is a wierd feeling getting about 30mpg and not having to fill up every 3 days. I do miss the 8 very much and almost cried a few times. If they would just do something about the damn power already I might be forced to go back.

TSX=205hp; RX-8-232hp
TSX=164ft-lb torque; RX-8=159ft-lb torque
So if you go for a TSX because of HP and Torque issues, the RX-8 has 12% MORE HP and just about the same Torque.

Other TSX problem areas (sound familar): Water in the headlight, creaks/rattles, transmission shifting, oil consumption(!), low coolant, brake squeal/rattle, paint, engine rough, blown transmission, build quality, rust, overheating, starting, 48 service bulletins (just for 2004 and 2005 models). There's over 2000 problem posts at AcuraTSXCommunity alone.

Beats the hell out of my RX's 11.5 mpg. Sounds like this guy might have a problem and I bet Acura will do a lot more about a low mileage complaint then Mazda does, seeing that Mazda basically said it was normal and to live with it.

Maybe. I'm just making the point that it's not all Blue Skies over in TSX land. Just as a baseline, the TSX is rated 22/31 MPG - way higher than the RX-8's 18/24 MPG.

24, now that is funny. And I have already seen in the 30's on mine. I didn't get rid of the car because of problems, in fact if I was going to I would have a long long time ago when I have had every minor and major issue with mine, and I mean I had them all. I stuck by it though, cause I love the RX-8. It was just time. I love my TSX now just the same. no problems yet, by this time in the 8 I already had engine failure. So already off to a better start lol. J/k I will probably buy the next gen 8 when it comes out.

You may need to hold your breath like David Blane to see that. The RX8 seems like it's headed toward the endangered list right now.

Endangered might not be such a bad thing when it comes to resale down the road. Resale right now might be low, but if they discontinue the 8s there is a possibility that resale will go back up being that it would be a collector's car at some point.

I'd like to see the next generation RX8, but I would also like to have the option to get out of mine without losing my ass, so maybe cancellation would be a good thing.
