Test Driving Tips From Mazda

Was going through the Mazda website and came across this. Just wanted to point it out, especially because some people were saying that their warranties were being voided because of so called "Racing". Funny when they tell you how to "Test Drive" your car and then turn around and tell you that the warranty is voided. Point this out next time any of you guys have a problem with your Dealerships!

still wish the beep was louder.

I love this section:

"Fuel Efficiency
The increased heat efficiency resulting from zero overlap between the opening of the intake and exhaust ports makes it possible for the RENESIS to run on a leaner fuel mixture than conventional rotary engines. When idling, the RENESIS consumes 40% less fuel than the latest production rotary engine.

Reciprocating piston engines generally use a richer fuel mixture under high-speed and high-load conditions to prevent knocking. In contrast, rotary engines do not require a particularly rich fuel mixture under these conditions due to their special combustion characteristics. In addition, the RENESIS achieves nearly complete combustion over the entire speed range thanks to its high compression ratio and the use of new fuel injectors designed for improved fuel atomization. These enhancements allow the RENESIS to run on a leaner fuel mixture than conventional rotary engines from the low to the high-rev range. The result is the power and performance of a sports car engine and reduced fuel consumption."

WOnder what they consider lean?

the renesis has the ability to run as mentioned in the article...they never said that it does ;)

i think part of the reason for running as rich as it does is for cat longevity.

now somebody go invent a super high-temp catalytic converter that can handle rotary heat, and you will be set for life :D

It IS a funny read though. My 3rd gen gets much better mileage on the highway than the RX-8 - as high as 9 l/100 km - at 125 km/hr. I get about the same mileage as the RX-8 in the city.

We have found the RX-8 guzzles at idle. DON'T LET IT IDLE for long periods!

So would those statements rate as "sandal in mouth" or "slipper in mouth"?
