Tein S Tech for Series II
I posted a thread about this a while ago in the SII sub-forum, but I never got a definite answer. Forgive me if this has already been answered. I just need a simple yes or no really, though feel free to elaborate if you care too. Anyway, do the Tein S Tech springs for the SI RX-8 work on SII's? I want to buy some, but I can't seem to find any specifically for the 2009+ models, yet I know people with SII's that are running them.
Thanks |
Yes they "work". The main difference between the S2 and the S1 suspension is that the rear of the S2's have a higher mounting point inside of the trunk. Meaning that if you take a assembly from an S1 and put it in the S2, your rear end is going to sit lower than expected. Just make sure you install them properly and properly preload and you should be good to go
|
Why did you put work in quotations? Does that mean they will work, but not completely properly? Sometimes I see them listed as being 04+, or 04-10. Are these different than the 04-07 ones, or is it all the same actual part?
I'm just going to get a shop to do it. I don't have the proper tools. |

i thought it was pretty clear. they are different due to mounting points, they will work with the effect of the rear being lower...
they will fit and be 100% functional. ride height is affected. proper installation should address that some. whether or not the ride height is acceptable is subjective and there is no definative answer |

He said two conflicting things. He said the suspensions were different, then said it would be fine. That's not directly saying that, "Yes. It will work 100% properly."
It will work "100% properly" ... I was merely pointing out the difference between S1 and S2 rear suspension so that you can at least make a purchase with confidence PS. i put work in quotes because having it work is dependent on the job that you do. |

What i mean to say is that lets say you take a set up that gives you about a 1 inch gap between wheel and fender from an S1. Due to the higher mounting points of the S2, chances are when you take that exact same set up and place it on a S2 car, the wheel gap will be a lot less.

Basically, I just want to know if they'll give me the drop they're advertised as giving for an S1, or will my S2 sit even lower? |
not different length springs, different length shock absorbers. Not by much though, try messaging ASH8 for exact difference in size.
Like i said before, because the mounting points are higher in the S2 trunks, the drop advertised will not be the same. You will technically get more of a drop in the rear though not significant enough to make it lower than the front (the S2 rear sits higher than the front more than the S1's did). As long as you properly preload (or adjust the height of a coilover properly) you should be fine. All I am saying is dont be freaked out when you get a set that advertises a 1" drop and you actually got a 1.2" drop (example) in the rear. |

Will any of this cause problems with my stock shocks? |
No problem, sorry for the confusion but its the minor difference between the suspension systems of the S2 vs S1, just minor but figured you would want all the details ;)
The thing with installing lowering springs on stock shocks is that its generally not something you want to do. Not to say that it is going to fail, but there have been many people who have installed springs on stock shocks (not just rx8's) and had the shocks start to sag/fail/leak over time. The reason is simply because you are compressing the shock more than it was designed to be compressed at idle levels. Its one of those things that really is a crap shoot and depends on your driving habits, roads, shock condition, etc. |
Might have to wait for some shocks then. Can't afford coilovers though.
I appreciate your help. |
