Tallest 8 driver?

Just curious to see who is the tallest 8 driver on this forum. I'm 6' 1'' with the moonroof and feel *comfortable* driving but sometimes my hair brushes the moonroof. If I decline the seat more, it's quite a reach for the steering wheel, since it doesn't telescope :(

A friend of mine is 6' 4'' and had a fun time driving my 8 but said it would be rough having to drive it every day ;)

nosubstitutec4s 07-18-2004 09:20 PM

im 6'2'' and i love the driving position in the 8. im not too tall for it. i guess i just have long legs.

moRotorMotor 07-18-2004 09:24 PM

I am 6'3 and I don't have the sunroof for that reason. Had I opted for GT trim, I might not be able to sit comfortably.

Murph 07-18-2004 09:28 PM

I'm 6'1" and have the same hair-brushing experience. I've only had the car 2 days so I'm still working on the finding the best seat position. I have the touring package so I do have the sunroof.

Synergy RX-8 07-18-2004 09:37 PM

Hey Hey Hey, I am 6'5" and i love my 8 with every part of my heart. The only chore is getting in and out, but once i am in i this that it is way more comfortable the even some luxury sedans. I gues it the way that the seat are designed in the way that they hold you in soo well. but I, as you friend, have long legs. A plausable explination to my comfort in the 8

RX22 07-18-2004 10:10 PM

6'5"...should be an owner in about a month. :D

MEGAREDS 07-18-2004 10:31 PM

Guys over 6'1" in the Touring or GT package are best advised not use too much "product" in their hair. You'll ruin the roof, cause it's gonna touch.

BaronVonBigmeat 07-18-2004 10:41 PM

6'6"...I win.

LiveBlues 07-18-2004 10:42 PM

I'm just 6' but I have short legs. I have the GT package and my hair brushes occasionally, but it is in no way uncomfortable.

John Paradise 07-18-2004 11:02 PM

6'4 w/ a moonroof and I have about a 1/2 inch of room between my head and the ceiling. It is a tight fit for sure but well worth it.

Also, being tall I am sure all of you have large feet, my size 13's are a little bit of a hassle at times. If I have my nice dress shoes on that are bigger than the average shoe it is a delicate little dance happening under the wheel.

What about another thread,"who is the fattest RX-8 driver"? then "who is the skinniest" then "who is the shortest" and for our hip hop friends what about "who is the phatest?"

takahashi 07-18-2004 11:11 PM

Any of you have a helmet on and try out in a racing position yet? I am 6'0.5" (184cm) and just able to make it with some rubbing to the top part of my helmet. I don't have a sun roof.

i'm 6'1'' and very comfortable .i have the moon roof but i'm getting thin on top so no hair problem here.

markh711 07-19-2004 09:06 AM

I'm 6'3" and have to tilt my head to the side so my helmet is in the cutout for the moonroof. I had to do this in my 2nd gen RX-7 also, so I'm used to it.

futureownr4sure 07-19-2004 09:06 AM

I'm going to ask the opposite, does it suits well for shorter people?? I'm 5 foot 5.

Feras 07-19-2004 09:16 AM

yeah at 6'1" i have the hair brushing experience too, so if i ever race i may have to adjust to fit a helmet. I find that the car suits itself to having long legs. This is the first car where i've been able to push the chair all the way back to a comfortable position for my legs and also have a good stering wheel position.

I'm 6'2", and it's going to take me awhile to get used to the "head-tilt" when I'm wearing a helmet. I have the sunroof. Tried adjusting the seat to compensate, but I like to sit tight and close on the track, so no go. Sans helmet is no problem at all. I have no hair, so no brushing on the roof. :p

Well worth the slight sacrifice. One of the best bone-stock road track cars I've ever drvien!

TRZ750 07-19-2004 12:12 PM

I am 6'4" & 220 lbs. and have no problem at all, even on the three long trips I have taken in 7 months. I do have the seat slightly tilted back and the moon roof. Actually that is my normal driving position, even in my wife's Dodge Intrepid.

Photic 07-19-2004 02:58 PM

I'm 6'5" I have the moonroof, I found that leaning the seat back further solved that problem. My legs are a little cramped but not uncomfortably.

mysql101 07-19-2004 03:09 PM

6' even, no problems.

Daddy_G 07-19-2004 07:50 PM

I'm 6'6" and have no problem once in the car (no sunroof), but I have bumped my head a couple of times getting in and out.

Outlaws eXtreme 07-19-2004 08:02 PM

I heard Yao Ming owns an RX-8, so that makes it 7'6" or something as the tallest.

VmanX 07-19-2004 11:08 PM

hey futureownr4sure,
you can adjust the height of the seat to better suit your size and stature.. i'm 5'7" and i fit comfortably in my 8

ok... the thing is, my upper body is fairly large and muscular for my height but I have shorter legs so, some cars aren't well suited for me. I've driven some mazda protege, honda civic and a few suzukis and they were all perfect for me, so I hope it won't cause any problem. I'll test drive it tomorrow so I'll know.
