Tall people please read (leg issue)

I'm 6'4" with 36 inseam and I hit darn steering wheel when I move my leg from gas pedal to the brake. If I drive bare foot its perfect. I need to find a wee bit more space from this car to be perfect. Anyone experiencing similar issues? I actually went to auto interior shop and they said they could move the manual seat rail back a little further and cut the cushion down an inch. What ya guys think? I have the 07 sports model (cloth seats)

BlueRenesis82 06-18-2007 11:49 AM

6'2" and no problems

Jethro Tull 06-18-2007 12:03 PM

Have you set the steering column/wheel as high as it will go? Set the seat as low as it will go? Might be kind of tough without going with aftermarket seats...

94 engineer 06-18-2007 12:36 PM

seat all the way back, stearing collum all the way up, pump the cloth seat all the way down. I was looking at the Bride Gias with the low max seat rails. But after doing some research on other forum if seams they only accomidate people around 200 lbs because the seat is narrow.

ken-x8 06-18-2007 01:01 PM

If you get the rails moved back, I'd love info on how it was done.

I'm six feet, 30 inch inseam, and fit pretty much OK. But my right leg is a little twisted, and I do better if I can stretch it out straight. I'd love to have another inch or two of leg room.

6'4" and 3/4 and no problems. Seat is the whole way back and down with a little lean. Just under an inch of spare headroom and no problems with the legs, but I am a slender fella so that probably helps. I fit better in the 8 than most small cars. My friend who is 5'1" had trouble though, she could barely get the clutch the whole way down. I had the same problem as you in an S2000 and it made me sad, but that car is way tighter than the 8.

Tamas 06-18-2007 01:11 PM

6' 6", 36 inseam here and I don't have this problem, but it's sure a tight fit to sit in this car :)
I'd also be interested in hearing how to get an inch or two more seat travel. It's not really necessary but would be nice to have.

Jedi54 06-18-2007 01:27 PM

6'6, 225, 36" inseam here.

Steering wheel tilted up, seat all the way down, and reclined quite a bit. It's the only way I fit.

kors-jan 06-18-2007 02:25 PM

Wow, I can't imagine you 6'6" guys fit. I'm 6'1' with a 32 inch inseam and there's not that much extra room for me. You must have the seat back tilted waaay back. The power driver's seat helps me sit back far enough and it does lower quite a way down. Wonder who is the tallest owner? Will there be any taller than 6'6" guys out there? I'm intrigued.

Jedi54 06-18-2007 03:39 PM

Not to mention I HAD to get a sunroof! There goes another inch of headroom. :banghead:
Oh well, I still love my 8...just reclined WAAAAAY back. People always give me a strange look when they see me get out of my car.

Have you thought about buying a pair of driving shoes. I have a pair made by puma. The soles are very thin on them, and I feel it gives you a bit more space. Not quite barefoot, but close. Just a suggestion and a fairly cheep thing to try if you haven't ($70 on ebay).

94 engineer 06-18-2007 04:51 PM

I have a pair of Diesel flat sole shoe that's really thin. That's the pair I wore during the test drive, didn't really notice it then. I'm 6'4" and 240, I guess is motivation to go on a diet.

machfive 06-18-2007 05:27 PM

I'm only 5'10" so space is not an issue. If you don't have issues when barefoot, what about a driving moccasin? I don't know anyone who wears them but it's worth a look.

6'6"
170 lbs
34 inseam

This car wraps around me like a fucking glove. I love it.
Plenty of head room, good amount of leg room, and a snug area for knee movement. I wouldn't have it any other way.

It's all about seat positioning gentlemen.

BigOLundh 06-18-2007 06:13 PM

6'3" - 34" Inseam - 9" Power Packer

I sit with the seat further up, and only have an issue when heal/toeing. If i put the seat back, i dont have an issue.

Driving shoes are definitely a possible solution. I have a pair of driving moccasins—kinda like the ones pictures—and they're basically just slippers. So thin, it's almost like being barefoot. Effectively giving you maybe another 1/2" of room. I just leave 'em under the seat when I'm not driving. (I've found the kind pictured for as low as $35-40 online.)

Nope, I don't have to tilt the seat much at all - but then I also don't have a sunroof either (sport package). With the sunroof, I would not fit comfortably (I tried). Luckily I didn't want to have the sunroof to begin with :)
Mortal Moxie: man, 6' 6" and 170 lbs??? :Eyecrazy:
I'm the same height and 214 lbs. You must be thin as a razor :D:

DaveCM203 06-18-2007 07:39 PM

I have a 32" inseam and could use an extra inch or two. I have to heal and toe with the balls of my feet since my knees will not clear the steering wheel if I try to blip the throttle with my heal. I just keep the wheel up and the seat all the way down. I am used to it now.

Yuen 06-19-2007 12:07 AM

holy shit u guys are tall. 5' 7"...lol.

Greek Racer 8 06-19-2007 12:28 AM

I don't know why you guys are having soo much prolems fitting in the 8. Especially those under 6'.

I'm 6' 2", 32" inseam, 210 lbs. and I fit perfect. My 8 has power seat and sun roof.

What I do is lower the rear of the power seat and raise the front of it, set the seat back to about the before the B-pillar, than tilt the seat till my shoulder is at the B-pillar. (note, the seat is not all the way back. put the steering wheel up just until it barley convers the 0 on the tach. I have a little more than an inch of spare headroom. no problems.

Do you guys sit straight up? If I sit straight up I have lean over to the sun roof to clear it. SLOUCH A LITTLE BIT and YOU CAN FIT

paulmasoner 06-19-2007 12:30 AM

6'1" 180-190lbs

no issues and i sit very far forward. my right knee has about 1/2 in. clearance from the dash. perfect leg position for me and it keeps my arms nice and tight and at a good angle
