talk me into it.

I currently have a 06 Saturn Ion Redline w/ Competition Package(lsd and other goodies)

The thing I love about my car, is that; I dog the living **** outta the car every single day I drive her. I hit top to perfect shift points every time I take the car out. and she still runs the same as the day I bought her off the showroom floor.

what made me wanna sell my car would be that I want RWD and start getting into the drift scene. so I test drive a 350z and liked it but my problem is that I always have people with me. So being a two seater, I have decided to go with an RX8 since it can sit four just fine.

I owe 14k left on my car and I plan on paying it off within the next couple of months and getting an rx8...

its just a friend of mine has an 04, and has had more problems than I thought a car ever could. syncros going out, gone through two trannys, starting issues and other stuff...

but he said the 06/07s have all of the issues worked out.

but considering how I drive all the time and what I want the car for, would this be my best bet?

but im just looking for some honest suggestions on if this would be the best choice for me...

thanks!

Try searching and come back with specifics and evidence that you did. Skip 04s.

'04s have the most problems because they were the first model year- there are always problems with first year anythings.

Get an '07 and you have a long 50,000 mile warranty with is pretty good. All Mazda dealerships I've dealt with do my warranty work without arguement.

Test drive an 8 and love it. It's that simple. There aren't too many other 4-seating RWD sports car- other an an Infiniti G35 coupe and Mustang GT

I have an '04 with almost no mechanical problems. If all of the recalls have been done on the 8, regardless of model year, they should all perform just fine.

Incorrect. They changed the warranty for 07 Mazdas to be more in line with Ford, unfortunately.

2007 RX-8
Basic 3 yr. / 36,000 mi.
Free Maintenance N/A
Drivetrain 5 yr. / 60,000 mi.
Roadside 3 yr. / 36,000 mi.
Rust 5 yr. / Unlimited mi.

You should get a Crossfire and just add extra seats to it.

Get an '04 and it has a 60,000 mile/5 year power train warranty. All '04s were extended.

But keep your Saturn and don't buy an RX-8. We don't want to hear about your mad skilz at driftin' yo yo.

your friend must not know how to drive a stick! lol 2 trannys???!!

I went through one the day i bought mine from a USED owner, he abused the **** out of it prior to trading it in, so i replaced everything new and it's been mint since then.

redlining the RX-8 is no problem, wont hurt the engine any, it's very durable. but your gas consumption willl definately suck.

damn, i wish i can pay off $14K in a few months!!....

Drive it and you'll be hooked. If you want a drift car get a Mustang. You'll be dissappointed with the lack of torque in the 8 for drifting.

Sounds like an exteremely poor financial decision.

So I will not talk you into it, even though I could.

Do you also go to new home owners forums and ask people exactly what house you should buy?

Or perhaps dating sites to ask strangers which girl they would stick you with?

The purchase of a car should be your own decision. It's a personal thing. We don't know what kind of person you are. Did you grow up on cars? Do you like to get under the hood and do some work? Is it your daily driver? Do you like to go for saturday morning rides through the mountain twisties?

Look at your life. Look at your money. Look at what you want to be driving in 10 years, then ask yourself if the 8 is good for you. Make your own calls man.

had to be a Saturn driver...

Don't think that all of the quirks are gone with this car just because you are looking at an 06 or 07. Many of the quirks are gone, but there are still some left that should have been worked out by the time the 06 came out - engine mounts come to mind. Of course there are 04's on the road with no problems at all too.

This post should be a "sticky" for all the tools that come in here and say "convince me to buy an RX-8"

First mistake : A Saturn ? Are you freaking out of your mind ?

Second mistake : Its your car, your choice. Dont ask anyone what kind of car you want. you like it, get it. who gives a ****?

Third mistake : You should really start your *searching* lessons.
