yeah i wish they hadnt made them look so close to s2000 lights. i guess as long as they're black housing they're ok with me, but still i mean these are JUST like the s2000 lights. oh well, we all know exactly which car mazda is aiming the rx-8 at

I agree...The clear tail lights are way over done. I see them on trucks and crap now. But the Rx-8 doesn't look bad to me. I also didn't see the S2000 comparison until my buddy who has one said the same thing. He was saying the kind of ripped the look off. He thought the front fenders and the tail lights all resembled the S2000, and they do a little, but I think it's more of a trend then ripping the look off.
here something I was gonna do with an IS300's tail lights.
Take the light from the car, or order a new set, and remove the glass that encompasses them.
Cover the lights and make sure that no paint can get on them
Take them to a body shop or paint shop (Maaco wont do this I dont think) and have them spray over the chrome, you may need rough the chrome with sand paper before you do this.
After they get painted simply put them in the car again and you now have a custom looking taillight thats not clear but not generice either. Ferrari Did Something Similar to the front lights on the 360 Modena.

While I do like the RX-8 taillamps, they may perhaps change them slightly.
Of interesting note however, is the new Mazda 6 sedan. The 5 door hatchback has what most of us would consider Altezza lights. However, the sedan shown has more traditional, and in my opinion much better looking taillamps. However, I have seen pics where the sedan also has the altezza lamps. My guess is that since the 5 door was only recently approved for the US, but the sedan was always going to be the one sold here, that Mazda knew americans weren't too hot on Altezza lights and toned them down for the US market.

Hey veloceracing......wait till you see the new Ferrari 575M Maranello. It's got the 360-style headlamp housing now (i.e. color matching interior housing), looks amazing as any Cavallino does...
Anyhoo, I agree with the smoked three-piece setup as worn by the RX-7's, it's classy, unique, and original.

I'm not so sure that HID will be standard, as the car is supposed to start at 26K, though I would be willing to be substantial amounts of money that HID's will be available as an option if not standard.
Are HID's standard on the new Z?

hMm.. those pics of the atenza (sp?) are real nice. if i were to get a 4dr, i'd consider it. hatchback that is....
but back to the topic.
yeah, the similarities bwtn the s2k and rx-8 are uncanny. but i think they look nice on both cars.
i wonder what "normal" lights on the rx-8 would look like. just as long as the back up lights arent pink.. like they are on the earlier models of the accord.. 97-99or00? years
and no orange colored signals. hehe

I usually hate the look of Altezzas, but on the RX8 it looks decent. They aren't your typical altezzas. They're designed with the rest of the car in mind. I definately didn't like the darker tails on the RX7. I would like to see what normal lites would look like though.
Another thread back from the dead. I guess I'm in the minority. I think the tail lights on the RX-8 are phenomenal. Even if other cars have them, they don't look good on every car -- just like paint colors. Guess I'm glad Mazda agrees with me.
I think our tail lights look really good and would NOT like them changed. The clear lens is becomming more of a norm...I know, but I still think they look better than RED tail lights.
