Tail lights

I love the RX8, I am going to test drive one soon (possibly tomorrow), but I have to say the tail lights turn me off. The exterior shape of the car is awesome. Has anyone modded the tail lights to be something else? they look too "bubbly" to me, and I just don't like the looks - I would almost prefer something that doesn't stand out.

Any ideas?

Thanks,
ELmO

ELmO,

You will probably see some after market designs start to show up in about 6 months or so but why would you mess with a good thing. Quite a number of auto manufacturers are moving to the Alteeza style tail lights and it is of course due to demand from consumers. I understand that personal preference is important don't get me wrong. Look at them a little more and see if they don't grow on you. If they don't then think about what you would prefer that they look like and see if there are any aftermaket companies doing that style of tail light.

I can certainly understand his concerns; to me all vehicles with the Alteeza-style lights look way too "Fast and Furious" to me.

As my wife said when she first saw the back, it makes her believe the RX-8 is targeted at 18-22 year-old males...

(FWIW, IMHO the Lexus RX-330 looks even sillier as its Alteeza lights are simply huge...)

Yes, I'm 23. I don't know what the market is. I am considering a Lexus IS300 also, and I can guarantee that it's targeted to the younger crowd - though the price is kind of high - that's my reasoning for why that car is'nt selling very well.

I have gray smoked altezzas on my civic right now, and it looks awesome. I hate the clear altezzas, but the rx8s aren't clear, they just look too lady-bug like to me. I mean they are actually bubbles (from what I saw up close, at night though). The rest of the car is amazingly beautiful. I am tyring to catch them during the day, but it's hard.

All I want is a light that doesn't stick out ("bubble") and possibly just a thin rectangle to accent the beauty of the rest of the car, rather than trying to focus on itself. I have to do it with my civic because the rear is very plain.

I am giong to test drive one and maybe it won't matter then...I am also considering the Lexus IS300, a cheap Audi, a cheap mercedes, the BMW 3 series, and the accord v6 loaded.
