just a brief intro
hi guys,
bought an '09 with 2200 miles on it over the weekend so wanted to pop in and say hey.
owned an '85 gsl from '91 to '94 and really enjoyed that little car. truth be told, if i didn't have kids, i might have searched for a first gen rx-7. but i'm diggin' the -8 with the 4 seats.
i'm thinking of doing some performance mods, what's the general consensus for most bang for the buck---tropical breeze, or mango?
cheers,
dean

i love mango too,
as im sure your aware, the rx8 is NA and therefore, alot of the upgrades you do will net you little to no HP without drastically decreasing the life of the engine ie, forced induction.
stay away from weapon r intakes, the general concensious is to go with AEM/Mazdaspeed (MS is a rebranded aem) or RacingBeat w Revi duct.
If your looking for a 3inch single exhaust alot of people go with HKS or RaceRoots, they are basically the same, except RR kinda replicated HKS's design so people get their panties in a twist over that.
Corksport is also coming out with a 2.5 or 2.75 i dont remember thats also single
removing the cat nets you some more power when replacing with a midpipe, RacingBeat is the quietest midpipe and sounds like you have a cat, where as turboxs is one of the louder.
There are quite a few headers out there that increase some hp, but most are very very expensive compared to what kind of power they net you, turboxs is coming out or came out with a garageline header that is $250-$400 i dont remember the price, and is the most affordable. Though headers make your car LOUD and ricey.
There is alot of debate over if pullies really give you more power
As far as tuning, contact mazdamaniac a vendor on rx8club to get you a CobbAccessport, he also tunes your vehicle. I think this is the best bang for buck power increase.
I just remembered that you have a 09, not sure if the headers will work, but the exhaust's hangers will be slightly adjusted for a series 1 rx8 to work on a series 2. midpipes work though. Im unsure if the intakes work but i wouldnt see why not.
i know im leaving alot off, im sure other members of the rx8club community will be able to chime in.

PICS!! Yeah EricB covered the basics. You won't see much gain unless you go FI. I have an AEM CAI, RR exhaust, and the RB dual resonated midpipe and the gains haven't been to noticeable. I would say Cobb Accessport would be the best bang for your buck, but Accessport isn't compatible with the series II 8s. Just look through the series II threads and learn more about your amazing car. Enjoy!
