Synchro Problems (any one else?)
hello.
I was just wondering if anyone else had synchro problems with their 8's. and would like to compile a thread concering this issue. so if you could post that would be great. Year of Rx-8: Mileage: driving style (commute, aggressive, both): Gears Grinding: Type of Transmission Fluid (dino or syn): Brand of fluid: Warranty denied or approved: thank you |
(back when i had probs)...
2004 w/ 40k miles. (bought it w/ 38k miles on it) City/commute type driving w/ occational aggression. 3rd and 4th gears grinded at 6k rpm and above shifts. Fluid: OEM Approved warranty work: Both gears replaced |
My God.......there must be 50 threads on this:(
|
Yes...there are 50 threads on this. But I feel bad cause I was one of them.
if you search, a guy did the same thing as you. Collect info and whatnot on people's cars. Problem is...dealer wont give a shit. Its not a problem unless Mazda says it is. |
there are 50 threads on this but im looking to organize it and consolidate it.
also i did find the thread of another member doing the same thing. I asked him for the list but he no longer has it. im compiling this list to prove that the synchro problem is large and this is probably not an isolated incident. its to help build a case. thanks |

Mileage: 80 000km driving style (commute, aggressive, both): aggressive Gears Grinding:5-6 Type of Transmission Fluid (dino or syn):dino Brand of fluid: what ever the dealer puts in? Warranty denied or approved: approved |
i dont have the paperwork in front of me, but what warranty would cover this work? 8yr/80,000? or original factory?
edit: And I apologize, I don't mean to hijack this thread by asking a question, but it certainly pertains to this. Often lately, I'll rev out from stop to 9k in 1st, go to shift into second and I'll grind it occasionally. Now I don't know if it's b/c I'm too quick to let off the clutch and don't have the gear in all the way before letting out; or if it could be something like synchros. It doesn't always happen, which makes me thin I may just be too quick sometimes, but it def. feels not as smooth as it once was going into 2nd. |
5yr / 100 000km drivetrain i believe. while i was shopping for 8's i test drove 1 that was grinding between hi rpm up shifts from 1st-2nd.

thanks for the response. I'm at 72,000 miles & change right now on mine so the orig warranty is out, but if the extended Mazda granted warranty will take care of it, then I may take it in soon. Like I said, it only happens when I really try and take a quick shift from 1-2 (it seems that 2nd gear is always the gear I tend to miss). Sadly, it may just be user error and I've really been watching...
more opinions are surely welcome... |
try a high rpm down shift from 2nd -1st make sure the clutch is to the floor shift nice and smooth and see if it still grinds

Mileage: 58,000 driving style (commute, aggressive, both): Mostly city, occasionally agressive. Gears Grinding: 5th. Jolting/roughness in a few others, as well. Type of Transmission Fluid (dino or syn): Synthetic Brand of fluid: Redline MT-90 Warranty denied or approved: Approved for 5th gear replacement. Made other issues worse, though. Might have been the dealer's OEM fluid. |
See? I don't think it was the fluid that did it. That stuff you had in it before was just covering up the major problems. Your transmission needed more work.
