Stupid Question about Engine Temp
those two lines on the engine temp gauge. have confused me since i bought the car. some have told me that i have to wait for the needle to hit those lines before driving the car so the seals can seat properly, and i have read that i can drive the car when i start it, but if i rev to high a fuel cut will occur so it doesnt rev to high untill the engine is at the right temp.
what are the lines? which of the stories ive heard is correct.... if any? can i drive it when the needle is under the lines? |
drive it under 4k till temp moves into the middle

The gauge starts to move around 130° or so and will be just under the "normal" position - just slightly to the left of center - at 170° or so.
It begins to swing up towards the middle at 230° and will peg full hot around 245° or so. |
What the hell is that sign?
Help wanted? Need a job? Mu ha ha...... |

I have a question! just this morning i noticed my temp guage would jump when i get on the gas for a short stretch and then slowly return to normal after i back off. it doesnt move too much, just from slightly left of center to slightly right of center....this is the first time it has done this. anyone have any ideas?

Casey, I second Jason's comment. The temperature gauge just does not move under normal conditions. See MazdaManiac's description above. I've sat idling in 100 degree weather, AC on but not cooling because under hood temps are high, and the gauge has not budged. Never budged while moving under those temps, either.

thanks guys. i reset the e-shaft sensor by switching the ignition to on and pumping the brake around 20 times untile the oil pressure guage jumped and that seems to have fixed the problem. Temp guage has been staying constant even when i drive the car hard for longer periods of time. i also noticed it was running way smoother and idled way better too. not sure why or even if this was the problem but for now it is gone.
