Why on earch should OUR opinions matter to you? If you like them, that's all that matters. Don't be a second-hander.

I don't know what you are asking...are you asking:
a) How those wheels look, due to your photochop skils?
b) How thse wheels look on your car?

If a), then I think its pretty good...I suck at chopping photos so, yeah.

If b), then I don't think you should paint them. Paint chips. It's not ideal for rims. Powder coating is best and more durable. Just don't, EVER, spray Simple Green on powder coat! Its not good. In fact, it'll get pretty damn ugly! Anyhoo, I think N_rider89 may be selling his rims. They are OEM 18"s powder coated black. I've seen them in person, and they look really good. He even painted the center caps but left the mazda emblem silver--nice touch.

paulmasoner 03-21-2007 03:15 AM

yes i like the powder coat black OEMs, saw this today for the first time, and i like it. wanna do 'em on my galaxy ghey

I like opinions before i do things myself. this way i can know if its worth doing or not .

AdRoCK3217 03-21-2007 08:40 AM

If you paint them black, or powder coat, whatever..mask off the Mazda symbol, and paint to match your car (red), and would also look nice if they matched your brake calipers (which should be red :))

Haze 03-21-2007 11:44 AM

Back in early '04 when I was waiting to take delivery of my car, I saw a guy post a photo of an RX8 meet from Japan, and one of the yellow cars had matte black rims. Damn it looked good! I went out and bought dark gray wheels for my winter wheels on my yellow 8, and I haven't regretted it for a minute. With certain colors of RX8 black looks amazing. With the color you have there I would absolutely do it. I would also think about how much gloss you want in the wheels. Anywhere from pure matte to high gloss and if you want some metalic in it. IMHO, I'd go for it.

the M from the caps pops right out

mlewis412 03-21-2007 05:07 PM

sounds like a plan :D: im going to be doing it this friday... my friend paints his wheels all the time so ill get him to do it (he actually recommended that i should do it) Thank you all for your input... i cant wait to see how they come out! ill post pictures when its done!

dshiznit1489 03-21-2007 05:17 PM

ive actually thought about doing this to my winning blue, IMO i think it would look sick. BTW, you deff should NOTT paint them to a mirror look, go powder coated like everyone says. A mirrored looks will look like eh black chrome, which IMO isnt a great look on the stock wheels. so powder coated FTW!

Stavesacre21 03-21-2007 07:50 PM

:suspect:

no so cool.

Ike 03-21-2007 08:07 PM

It's pretty ghetto, but if you like how it looks go for it...

Razz1 03-21-2007 08:56 PM

Get them Black Chromed

Cody Red 03-21-2007 08:58 PM

mine are black, but they weren't chrome. i hate chrome. sorry.

Sigh. It's worth doing if you think it's worth doing, not if a bunch of other people think it's worth doing.

well thats the thing with people, some like to get opinions while others do not. I most likely was going to get it done either way... but now it is definite that I am going to get them powder coated! again id like to thank you all for your input on this! Pics will be posted shortly! :Eyecrazy:

ddtran46 02-03-2008 07:43 PM

looks like someones got a leak on their taillight.. damn mines does too. i was thinking about doing this too but i think i would just buy a new set of rims instead

nycgps 02-03-2008 08:50 PM

if I say it would be nice if u paint them in pink, would you listen ?

just do whatever you want ! Its your car, not ours.

Razz1 02-03-2008 09:27 PM

If you like it... go for it.

Jedi54 02-03-2008 09:33 PM

You got any larger pictures? I'd like to see how they look on a lightning yellow.

Jethro Tull 02-04-2008 07:21 PM

Meh. I like the stockers just the way they are.

TopGear8 02-04-2008 07:53 PM

I would either get aftermarket black wheels with a polished lip. or a different color. I'm not a big fan of the stock wheels painted black.

zerobio 02-04-2008 08:16 PM

Some folks are understandably tired of giving their "opinion". And yet they have such mad skills and awesome rides you're just dying to learn from them. You see their car and you think "I want to do that too!" and so you ask how they did it. But it's an art, it's a science, and it's personal ... they don't exactly want to share it. They want us to learn it for ourselves, to use the "force" and grow, tough love. And you curse them for not understanding how needy you are but you know they are just making you buck up and walk for yourself. They'll still break down at times and give and give ... but sometimes, they'll reign down on you for a little typo. Haha.

Man, I value these guys opinions so much! You know if you painted them pink, this place'd shun you. So they do care what you do, they just want to see you make good choices ... mechanically and cosmetically. They'll make you do some legwork, to show that you're trying to learn, and then they'll offer you a crutch.

Well that's how I see it. Hope nobody feels included if they don't want to be.

So I've always liked the oem rims, a bit too common, but if you powerdercoat them and they look good (to you, me, them), that'd be alright. Hopefully you can get something different (but black) down the road.

TopGear8 02-04-2008 08:18 PM

^aww that was sweet :)

im not sure what thats supposed to mean but i think its pretty emotional... not sure if i was supposed to cry or not.

If you like the powdercoated black stock wheel i will tell you there is a set for like 400 bucks on ebay right now if you search. I cant post a link, but its there.

Otherwise im a chrome guy and like a big staggered offset with a nice lip and 5-8 spoke.

zerobio 02-05-2008 03:24 PM

It's my party and I'll cry if I want to ...

Haha, no need to cry or curse me for being a bit sentimental. I do have a softer side but I can be a prick when you know me. Just wanted to say it's not all flame wars and tough-guy stuff. Not afraid to show my feminine side ... yech, now this is sounding stupid so that's all the inspirational talk for one day.

TopGear8 02-05-2008 04:15 PM

^Good stuff. now lets get back on topic

Get aftermarket black wheels!

kersh4w 02-05-2008 05:31 PM

i'll be painting my stocks white.

and i dont care what anyone thinks.

im sorry, but chrome just looks stupid. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/FACTO...spagenameZWDVW

TopGear8 02-05-2008 08:08 PM

Do It! I've never seen the stock wheels painted white. And i agree that the chrome stock's look stupid.

shazbot28 02-05-2008 08:18 PM

There's the paint and bake way for wheels which make it look as nice as power coat... You just need to read up on how to DIY. Just remember, curb rash damages both power coating and painting the wheel.

Hepcat1920 02-05-2008 08:22 PM

I like it...

I have had this idea for a little while - but have been researching lighter weight options as well.

There is a customer that comes into service here that has RX-8 stock wheels on his Crystal White Pearl 'SPEED6 and it looks downright awesome.

Anyone know how much weight the powder coat adds?

snowflakes 02-05-2008 08:57 PM

powder coat'em bronze and then take out the condensation from your rear tailights. LOL....

Null 02-05-2008 09:12 PM

Dunno why I'm commenting here really or if it's been said, but you could go with a Wet black look. It's not any kind of crome look, and it's got class.

I'd say only do this if you could do it yourself though. If it's a money pit just get some nice aftermarket rims that fit your style.

- Matt

P.S. I guess the reason this came to mind was my buddy just bought new ISP rims for his lexus IS250... When we went to pick them up, they had a version of his old lexus rims on display, wet black color. It's pretty neat.

2tone 02-05-2008 10:59 PM

i wanted to powder coat my stockers for a while now. was planning on the "wet black" look, not too shiny but definitely gloss. someone mentioned a matte black powder coat ... i hadn't thought of that! are there any pics of a matte black powder coat? i have a bb, so matte black wheels might not look good with shiny black body paint, but it sure sounds interesting!!

TopGear8 02-06-2008 01:40 PM

^Yeah i dont think the matte black wheels would look good on your BB. They would definitally look better if they were glossy.

Soapflake 02-06-2008 02:14 PM

I was never a fan of black wheels myself so I guess my opinion is a little biased. Though I like the idea that if you do it, paint the center cap red

Dubs740 06-15-2008 07:01 PM

how good would you think a wb rx8 w/ black powdercoated oem 18's would look? and if not a good color choice then what other color, bronze, gold?

mattrotary34 06-15-2008 07:13 PM

i hate the chrome stockers.. just my opinion and also go for the black with the center cap stock with silver calipers.. really compliments the black rims.. having red calipers on a red car.. looks cheap to me... looks awesome on vr
