Starting issue?

alright few days ago when i started my car it was fine, but somehow after i start the car the rpm is idling at 2500 ? but after driving the car idles back to 1000... does anyone know why its doing that?

quazmosis 10-21-2008 05:51 PM

I believe that's perfectly normal to operate idle at higher RPMS until warm, then it should drop to around 850ish.

It will idle high when the engine is dead cold, then settle down as it warms up. Sounds normal to me.

Jedi54 10-21-2008 05:51 PM

does this typically happen in the morning or after the car has been sitting for a long time?
If so, it's pretty normal. Our car idles much higher then normal when it's cold and after a little while the idle will drop down to it's normal range.

edit: holy crap you guys are fast...

HWK11 10-21-2008 07:02 PM

Im pretty sure that when you start a car, it idles high, and after a few minutes (warming up), it goes down to 1k or so .. thats just me

CyberPitz 10-27-2008 05:59 PM

They have been doing this for many years *The RX-7's of the 80's did the same thing!*. It's there to help warm up the car.
