Start Button

START BUTTON KIT Exchanging the coin case beside(RHS in Japan) the streeing wheel. 1st, you turn the ignition key on and the trim of that kit lights up. 2nd, putting the clutch plate and brake plate on. 3rd, pushing the button and engine starts working. where does it go in the interior? also does this disable the regular starter? |
I seriously question whether the instrument panel wiring harness will have the plugs to install the start button. Thats not to say you couldn't wire it in, but I would only want it if it plugged right in. That being said, I have no idea where it would go.

Has anyone gotten the start button on their car yet?
I'm too curious to find out exactually where the button is gonna be installed. I'm gonna put my order in soon. And the dealer is gonna thrown in some accessories. The first thing came to my mind is the start button, I know some of you guys gonna say it's troublesome..., but that's the whole fun ritual of a start button. By the way, this guy was telling me (I didn't quite understand, I'm a idiot when comes to electronic) that it's a good practice that one switches the car to ON first, hold it there for a second or two before crackin the engine to start! Cause once you switch to ON, there's some hot wire thingy happening (this the part I don't understand), let the hot wire release their electro blah, blah,...before starting the engine would do the car good. Maybe some of you who are good with this can elaborate further. Anyway back to the button, would appreciate any info. Thanks |
Start button looks great!
I would get it and install it if it were available. I suspect it would be where that useless change compartment is.. (it is too low, and unlit, and I almost alway drop change when I try to grab some from that silly tray). |

Oh, yes, I did read that, didn't I??? :)
Actually I was wondering about that in the context of it as an ADDED option for US models (in which case other features do not ever get "replaced"). Curiously, there is a round spot on the dash next to the glove compartment... what is possible option could that empty spot be for? |

Or maybe I'm just not looking hard enough? Anyone? Maybe that was a port option, just like the outer mirror courtesy lights ;) Edit: Damn, husker, beat me to it... :D |
I think I'll stick with the key ignition until I actually see one installed. Personally I like the coin holder :-)
|
The coin holders great for carring extra fuses, ash trays great for carwash money.

The JDM Start button doesn't work on US Spec cars. The plate that replaces the coin box is the inverse of it. My friend ordered it and we tried to put it in this weekend but coudn't.. I'll post some pic's when I get home tonight.

Would be nice it it works.

well since i haven't taken delivery yet and when i test drove one i was focused on the driving not looking for every little knick nack, i dunno where the coin tray is
also i bet there's gotta be a way to wire it up, just a little more work on the US spec cars |

could always buy a S2000, we've had the start button for 4 years now.:D

Someone please explain the logic in this start button. You put your key into the ignition switch, presumably turn it to the "on" position, and THEN reach over and push another button to start the car. Wouldn't it be slightly more convienent to just continue the key turning motion a 1/4 turn? This seems a waste of movement/time/money.
|
With the Start Button, it will make starting the 8 such a ceremony...sigh...you wouldn't understand till you get one.:D

it's part cool factor, part better on your starter (hard to have the starter turned to long because of some kinda lag) and part ceremony

can someone clear this up for me?
As i understood it, the s2000 start button is somewhat computer-aided, meaning that one short touch would signal to the computer to turn the motor over w/ as little wear and tear as possible. is it the same as with the rx8? or is it basically working the same way as if you did turn the key 1/4 more to turn the engine over, like however long you pressed the start button for would be how long the starter motor would turn? |
