anyone watch the opening race?
I was kinda surprised they only made 240hp considering they could've done a lot of modifications on them for openwheel racing. I wondered if the commentators know anything about rotaries cause they barely touched the subject! One said "It's a new car with the new *pauses to think* renesis engine" and the other went on and on about the new LOOKS and carbon fibre tub while I was waiting for them to talk about what mods they did on the stock rx8 renesis when they put it into the race cars
but yea those things are sweet, I'll be sure to tune into the next race

 

As far as I know, they didn't do anything to the Renesis other than the obvious removal of the speed limiter. Being bolted into a much lighter car than the RX-8, the Renesis takes on a completely different character and has explosive performance. Last season's car was little more than a fiberglass go-kart with a naturally aspirated 13B behind the driver. My friend (who use to run in the series) said the fastest he could go in the old car was 140-150mph, the new ones are said to top 170mph. Now he's a race engineer for one of the teams and he said the Renesis is unbelieveable...completely bulletproof so far. The car is crap though as Star hasn't completely worked out all of the bugs, but the important thing is that the engines are running VERY well.
