Squeal like a pig: a question

Is there an actual fix for the brake squeal problem? They replaced the pads last spring per the TSB, but that only made it worse. It more or less disappeared over the summer but with colder weather (it's around freezing today) every time I roll to a stop every gopher within 10 miles drops dead from fright. It's kind of embarrasing to be driving this fancy car that sounds like the shower scene in Psycho at every stop sign.

From what I have found if you work the brakes hard when it starts squealing it should subside.

alot of people had the problem solved with the tsb, others haven't. some have went to after market pads to solve the problem, but you must bed your brakes properly. search bedding brakes, its pretty easy to do with fresh pads and a long long stretch of road.

I just took my pads out completely... no squealing now!

Just do what my writer told me to do, wash the rotors then go out and brake really hard a few times, and while they are hot, wash them again!

Washing rotors when really hot will warp them.

However, I don't know if you can get them hot enough on the streets to cause this.
Certainly don't want to wash them after a track session and before they cooled.

I've seen steam come off rotors before when being washed.. not good.

Hope no one went out and bedded their brakes and washed the rotors afterwards...

Check with your dealer again. I was under the impression that Mazda has updated the replacement pads in the last couple of months because they weren't solving the problem. I had mine redone back in June or July - right after Mazda supposedly introduced another "fix" for the brakes. I have had no more squealing, but we haven't had any cold weather either.

I know what you're saying about it being embarrassing!!
