sporty cars - consumer reports

They tested a
bmw 135i
mazdaspeed 3
subaru impreza
mistsubishi lancer
subaru impreza wrx
chev cobalt ss
nissan sentra se-r spec v
dodger caliber srt4
volvo c30

Bmw came in first, mazdaspeed 3 2nd, subaru impreza wrx sti 3rd. And of prior cars tested they listed rx8 4th.
:)

Not too bad I would think

What does this have to do with rx8 ?

CyberPitz 08-28-2008 05:22 PM

So, they did this same test with true "Sports" cars, and the RX8 came in 4th?

motorups 08-28-2008 06:35 PM

Consumer Reports tested 9 'sporty cars' in the new October issue. I listed the 9 they tested (well actually listed the mazdaspeed 3 in error when I should have typed vw r32).

In a table they also listed other sporty cars they had tested prior in addition to the 9 in this issue. On that list (present test plus others tested before) the rx8 is listed 4th of 14 different cars listed. Just thought it was nice we came in 4th thats all. The rx8 came in ahead of a vw gti, honda civis si, mini cooper s, mustang gt v8 as well as the others in the test (save for the ones that came in 1, 2, and 3rd).

sweet, nice find

What's impresssive is that the 8 is pretty much the same car it was in '04, yet it finished as high as it did.

The BMW 135i has a twin turbo V6 making 300bhp and tops out at 40k fully loaded, and BMW isn't known to heavily discount their vehicles.

Despite that motor, the 0-60 times I've seen for the 135i is 5.2 seconds, and I would had expected more.

5.2....seconds?....we aren't that far behind.

BMW, what are you doing so wrong?

Kafka 08-29-2008 02:35 PM

5.2 manufacturer time is definitely fast. and R&T/Car & Driver times are even faster.

Rx8 ARE far behind...go search on youtube for a German car comparison 135i vs rx8 and you will see...

5.9 sec 0-60

the .7 seconds is not that much, in my book.

It is if you race spec sheets. :Eyecrazy:

CyberPitz 08-29-2008 03:49 PM

Very true, but I was stating off of my opinion, and I hardly look at spec sheets...hell, I bought an RX8 :P

I was just messing around, not taking issue with your opinion.

I also bought an RX-8 (40th AE).

I traded in an '07 MX-5 Miata with MazdaSpeed springs and swaybars. I mention this because it reflects my desire for superb handling above all else.

I test drove the 135i, and it is a great car, but the RX-8 offered 9/10ths the handling of my MX-5 out of the box and came in 15k+ cheaper than the 135i with similar options (leather, heated seats, etc).

Every time I drive my RX-8 I grow to love the characteristics of the Rotary more and more. As a total package the RX-8 is simply sublime in all respects.
