Spare tire kit installation

Can anyone comment on the ease or difficulty of installation of the spare tire kit and tire? Is it simple bolt on or do you have to mess with the speakers and other stuff in the top area of the trunk. My local mazda dealer quoted by $380 for the kit and $262 for installation which sounded unbelieveable for the labor.

Sorry if I put this in the wrong forum. I'm new. I'll learn.

Your dealer is ripping you off. It comes with detailed instructions and should take about an hour for a nooby to install taking all the care in the world. I have the complete kit but have removed the mounting bracket and only haul the spare (loose in the trunk) around when I'm out of town. The bracket wipes out about 30% of the trunk area while the installed spare and bracket takes up about 50% of the area and limits access to 60% of the trunk opening.

if buying used BE SURE to the seller gives you the "bracket A". Some sellers forget to remove it.

how big is the tire that comes with it? Is it the size of a donut spare tire?

I just did the installation myself two weeks ago. Takes about a hour, and anyone that can read directions and use basic tools can do it. Buy the kit from someone on the forum, and make sure they send you the mounting brackets if they take it off their car.

It does limit trunk room, but I still have been able to use the trunk for everything I wanted to put in it.
