Some Problems!
I visited my local Mazda dealer, and saw a nice brand new red RX8 in the service. The owner was talking with service man, and serviceman said mazda doesn't know the problem and what caused it, but they will need to leave their car in for few weeks or so and they will get a loaner until then. So what could have been the problem? The owner's wife said, she smelled something in the car too. I was just wondering if anybody know what these problems might be?

Can you be more specific as to what the problem was, and what was going on in their situation. Something about a "smell"? |

That's why Haris is here asking any owner of the 8 has a similar problem, if anyone on this forum who has the similar smell problem, please share their experiences. That's what he's trying to ask, got you right Haris?:) |
Saw a couple threads about exhaust oil coating burnoff but i dont think they would need car for a couple weeks unless they were incompetent mechs

I saw a post by a guy that said his 8 was so comfortable that he fell asleep in it. Well if its not running, that habit could eventually generate a smell.
But seriously, mine still has the new car smell, day, night, parked or driving after 2 months and 2000 miles. |

Ok, all you got to go by is "a smell". Well, I have smelled something strange multiple times in my RX-8. Everytime it has been while going in reverse or right after going in reverse. I haven't had it checked out by the dealer. I'm going to wait to see if it goes away. It seems to be occuring less and less as the car ages. It probably isn't anything to worry about. Just something a new rotary engine does? |

This could be the "fuel economy test"??? I saw another post where a dealer asked them to leave the car for a few weeks so a tech can drive it around with a special monitor. If so, maybe the wifey was theorizing gaz was leakin & just threw that in there to make sure they check for that.
Also, if so, this is rediculous - Mazda should do their own tests on their own cars and give us a jingle when they have the new ECU code ready. It would behoove them to do so by Oct 1st. I for one will opt for the buyback if they don't. |
I am shocked that most mazda service men dont know a thing about rotary engines. Why would mazda make them if servicemen dont even know how to repair it and stuff.
