Sold!

Thank God I got up the courage to sell my RX8. I've had so many problems with this car I was afraid the person I sold it to would break down before he got home. Do not buy this car. I've spent a fortune at the mazda dealer getting it repaired. It had 86269 miles on with new tires and I sold it for 6900. I bought it in 2005 for over 24000 dollars and had it towed five times. The last work was complete relacement of hold exhaust system..Clutch was sqeaking when the buyer left with it. I'm so glad it's gone.:smoker:

tonik 08-31-2012 01:59 PM

just curious, what problems u had with this car?

RX8Soldier 08-31-2012 02:51 PM

Did you sell it to a dealership?

9krpmrx8 08-31-2012 03:01 PM

Sounds like it's wasn't the car for you. A rotary powered car needs a special type of owner to have a happy relationship. Good luck on your next purchase, I am sure it will be exciting.

Care to share your VIN so we know which car it is that you are talking about? Just in case the new owner is going to sell it.

9krpmrx8 08-31-2012 03:11 PM

 @ Team. Many would agree that rotary owners are a little mental.

I got my hold exhaust system replaced for free with 72289miles on car. Southern States in Raleigh replaced it after my engine light came on. They checked code and it was catalytic convertor and they said they would have to replace everything because parts of the convertor could be in system. They also changed the oil for free. Great dealership. Flow Mazda in Fayettville charged me over 800.00 because plug quit firing on interstate 95. They should refund my money I think because that caused my problem to begin with.
He posted this on his visitor page... Doesn't sound like it was the car's fault.

Javii 08-31-2012 03:58 PM

5 times having it towed in 7 years is rather low.. Specially if one doesn't take care of the car.

There is the problem right there!

monchie 08-31-2012 05:03 PM

At least your happy now. You don't have to worry about problems that you had before with the car. Anyway, what are you replacing it with?

sja31734 09-01-2012 09:32 AM

replaced

I bought a gmc denali about three months ago, not bcause of RX8, but just to have something dependable to drive my grandchildren in. The rx8 mostly just stayed parked. Looking at 2002 corvette but I'll probably get me another truck.

RotaryP7 09-01-2012 09:45 AM

I've had my 8 since late 2006. I've never had it towed, except that 1 time where I crashed. Other than that, the only issues I've had is the battery. My current issue is the "dark current" problem. Nothing big. I love my 8. :) And finally, it's paid off this year.

sja31734 09-01-2012 09:46 AM

No, I read someone tried to trade one in and the dealer would not give them anything for it as a trade in. I don't know the circumstances of the deal but I have recieved several letters from them wanting me to bring it in that they needed used cars and they would give me big discount on new car. I posted mine on craigslist and someone working in NC from another state bought mine. If you are into changing ignition coils and plugs and clutches& pressure plates you might like it.

RIWWP 09-01-2012 09:48 AM

Those are wear items? In the same group as brake pads, rotors, gasoline, oil, coolant .... you know, items that are expected to be replaced on any car that has them?

sja31734 09-01-2012 09:50 AM

Wow, you never changed ignition coils and plugs.

RIWWP 09-01-2012 09:58 AM

Actually, yeah I have. I can replace coils and plugs and wires in 20 minutes on my 8, it's quite easy. On my 4th set of coils, 5th set of plugs and 3rd set of wires over 5 years and 106,000 miles :dunno:

I don't find it expensive ($120 for coils, $80 for plugs, $60 for wires) or unreasonable.

I've also changed my oil 24 times, had a dealer do it 5 times, and an independent shop do it twice. I've flushed my coolant 3 times, replaced my rotors once, replaced my brake pads twice, replaced my clutch once. And that's entirely normal, or even light, for expected maintenance on a car over this time and mileage. You won't find any manual transmission cars that expect to have their brakes and clutch last more than about 90,000 miles, and if they do it's because of the driver, not the car. And I'll note that over 100,000 miles, manual transmission cars that have to replace the clutch spend less to do so than the three transmission fluid flushes that every AT requires (once every 30k, usually at a few hundred a shot)

About the only maintenance item that is specific to the RX-8 and not other cars is the coils, and it's well documented that our coils need replacing about every 30,000 miles.

If you would prefer to ignore your car, I sincerely hope you replaced it with something appropriate, and that you are happy with what you got.

sja31734 09-01-2012 10:07 AM

I would like to but some folks could use it for notorious means such as telling new owners about my posts and putting my personal info on here.

nycgps 09-01-2012 11:23 AM

Im so happy that u got rid of it, cuz obviously a drivers car isnt for you, and as irresponible as you are, just sold it without tellng the next owner that u messed it up totally, this is the reason why rotary have such bad name

And i hope your grand kids dont treat u as their role model

No I don't live in New York City either thank God. I do have some good news, I bought me an Infiniti G35 today. Wow what a ride! You don't even have to have a key to start or unlock doors. All leather, heated seats and powered seats with buttons on both sides of seats for adjustments and position programming. Even steering wheel moves electronically. Six cd changer and a hell of a lot more torque. This car will smoke and rx8's ass. It's beautiful. Get rid of them junkers and get a real car fellows and you won't have to spend all your time repairing them. Best thing I've done in long time. Good luck guys and have fun. I'll be passing you along the road.

I am no Doctor but something is mentally wrong with you.

I had my 8 since Sept of 07 and love it.

I have not done any major work/repairs
Have NEVER had it towed anywhere and I have tow insurance.

I have not spent all my time repairing it. Where did you get that idea? You have to be mental.

My 8 does not need a key to start or unlock doors..so well 2006s and you just found out about that? See why I say you are mental.

My 8 has all leather heated power seats. Gets my ass too hot sometimes but feels good in the winter.

and yes it has a 6 CD changer but that is so old tech. Nowdays we use bluetooth to play music from our cell phones. ie Gphone S3

Are you using those old tech flip phones?
I figured so

From one gramps to another, Gramps get with the technology. Hey I am 64
but ya, you are not rotary material.

Hope you do not treat your grandkids like you did your 8, they will have major mental problems

PS
Wrong English grammar > This car will smoke and rx8's
Proper English grammar > This car will smoke a rx8's
The word "and" is wrongly used. Even if you meant "an", it would still be bad grammar.

Another wrong English grammar > I got my hold exhaust system replaced
Correct English grammar > I got my WHOLE exhaust system replaced

More bad English, I was afraid the person I sold it to would break down before he got home.
This implies the person would be the one to break down and not the car.

You learned you grammar where, gramps?

As your first posts shows, you must have been smoking some bad stuff for those 7 years.

Yes the g35 definitely has more hp and more torque than the rx8. I have heard reviews on it saying it handles like a boat though, and it is ~3400-3700 pounds depending on options. Sounds like you got the "loaded" one so you are probably closer to the 3700.

Enjoy your new car, but there is no way you can say it handles even close to your old one. To me it sounds like you just wanted a faster car with a bunch of torque and the rx8 does not fit that at all, you got the wrong car before.
